When playing a flute (from GM500 for example) I do not get a nice legato.
It sounds like with every note there is an attack in the beginning.
There must be a solution.
Can somebody explain to me in an idiot-proof way how to get the legato of a flute sounds like a legato?
That goes also for other instruments...
Thanks

Hi,
YES, the simple fact that legato is the most frequently played expression is being ignored by many sample producers and still the samplers (including GStudio) are too stupid to detect a phrase.
The idea is to take the sample, cut off the attack with a wave-editor like sample-wrench and to put a quick artifical volume envelope at the beginning in order to have a fast but soft attack.
Best results are achived when you do the follwing: Keep the original sample with attack and play it at the beginning of a phrase. For the second note of the phrase you will use the manipulated sample.
I have studied this in detail and found that you can achieve quite a satisfying legato sound, but it is a lot of work: You need to cut samples and adjust envelope parameters.
However the real legato thing still is better because in reality the notes blend into one another. This is very evident with strings, where a phrase is played with one bowstrike. I have never heard this REALLY convincingly with a sampler. The current technology is not sufficient for this.
