View Full Version : What's the difference between instrument no. and Player no.?

I loaded every woodwind and brass instrument in my template and wonder now what the difference is between for example Bassoon 1 player 1 and bassoon 2 player 1. What kind of group would I use when using 2 bassoons in my orchestral piece:

Bassoon 1 player 1 AND Bassoon 1 Player 2

OR

Bassoon 1 player 1 AND Bassoon 2 Player 1

Thumb rule:

Be aware not to have SoloInstrument X with Player X in the same instance.

(soloX + playerY + playerZ = ok)

I assume that having them in the same instance isn't a problem as long as they are not used together in a piece, right? I loaded all the instrument in order the way they come in GPO.

I think so.
Be sure not to call them in when scoring (post-its are useful at this stage :))

Bassoon 1 Solo and Bassoon 2 Solo are different recorded instruments. Bassoon 1 Player 1-3 are derived from the samples of Bassoon 1 Solo. Each player instrument uses every third sample from the chromatically sampled solo instrument to make 3 instruments that don't share the same samples. This is why you don't want to mix Bassoon 1 Solo with any of the Bassoon 1 player samples.
