Can string harmonics be accomplished in GPO4? I thought they would be done via keyswitch, but I don't see that option.

GPO doesn't have string harmonics, but Instant Orchestra does.

The problem is it's a full strings patch right? In other words you can't really separate out the different string sections as I understand.
I could be wrong though.

Yes you're right - they are full ensembles. There can be some separation due to which octave you play, but there's probably overlap into the different string families.
I don't know for sure of course - but from listening to them I think they are done that way. I wouldn't buy any library based on the hope that 3 patches might be what I was looking for - FossMaNo1 would have to see if the library is right for him as a whole.

The string harmonics do have section overlaps. The only way to get individual section harmonics is to purchase other libraries at a minimum of $500.

sadly, string harmonics (and col legno) are one of the major sticking points with GPO, and the reason many of us are so impatient for Garritan to release his "advanced" string library.

Is it official that an advanced string library is in the works?

Technically this info is not strictly correct.
Lass lite comes at 399$ and has harmonics for sections. Doesn't have the divisi sections, which belong to the full monty bigger version, but you get harmonics for the separate (whole) sections.
VSL Special editions strings+ extended special edition strings libraries come at a total of around 420$ (for both, I read 320 euros, you do the conversion) and it has harmonics and a lot of other exotic stuff like several "sul ponticello" articulations and "col legno", for separated sections AND solo strings.
KirkHunter concert strings- whole divisions, same as Lass. It has harmonics for sections and comes at 249$.
Ok, expensive anyway, but you better hurry up or we all turn to the dark side :p
