That doesn\'t seem like a problem with Windows. At least not one you can solve by altering cache settings. Something is wrong. How much memory do you have? Could be a lack of RAM problem....

The cache in the WINDOWS SETUP....Where?

Hi damiafix,
I guess the cache settings being refered to are those in the SYSTEM.INI file in the WINDOWS directory. An example is given below, but the values of minfilecache & maxfilecache should be related to the amount of RAM you have. The example given is being used on a PC with 384 MB RAM, but usually the values are much lower (e.g. 32768 for systems with 128 MB RAM).
[vcache]
minfilecache=163840
maxfilecache=163840
chunksize=512
It is often recommended that the values for minfilecache and maxfilecache be set the same, and I have seen a recommendation that says to set it to a value obtained by dividing your total installed RAM by 4 then multiplying the result by 1024.

What about copying the Gigapiano folder to the hard disk and installing it from there instead?

I have a CDROM SCSI but the problem is different , the GIGASAMPLER don\'t load all the GIGAPIANO ....It\'s bloked at 97 % ...but 10 weeks ago was OK....

THe problem is OK!!
IT was in the VCACHE SETTING....
but the size for resolve this problem is very strange :
VCACHE ( MIN and MAX ) = 4096
but the sound of the samples in some moments not is continue.....WHY?
I wonder...do you have a SCSI CD ROM or RAM? I do, and I can\'t even register my Gigastudio 96 because my computer doesn\'t recognize the gigapiano CD. At least in the registration program. I have been able to load the gigapiano, but it was touch and go. I thought the CD might be defective. But tech support thinks it might be a bug in the program in regards to SCSI CD Drives. They\'re looking into it.

Hi again damiafix,
I would have thought that 128 MB RAM should be enough for the Gigapiano, even with VCACHE (min & max) settings of 32768. I\'m wondering if there are other background processes running on your friend\'s machine that are consuming significant amounts of RAM ? Control + Alt + Delete can be used to check which processes are running.

There is a program that misure the resurces that the background\'s application are using...?

Hi damiafix,
Taskinfo also gives a list of processes. Can you provide this also?
Take a look at the results for one of my computers (a Pentium II/350 with 384 MB SDRAM):
Process InMem KB
Idle 0
KERNEL32.DLL 160
MSGSRV32.EXE 0
MPREXE.EXE 0
mmtask.tsk 0
EXPLORER.EXE 4,208
SYSTRAY.EXE 0
MSWHEEL.EXE 0
TAPISRV.EXE 0
DDHELP.EXE 0
NOTEPAD.EXE 924
TASKINFO.EXE 872
VxD NTKERN 0
My PC shows 12 processes (37 threads) and your friend\'s shows 24 processes (55 threads). What are the additional processes?
CPU 1.01%
Idle 98.99%
Processes 12
Threads 37

Notice the free physical memory (295,284 KB on my PC): 29,332 KB on your friend\'s PC. 29 MBytes may possibly be a bit small for the GigaPiano (?).
Your friend\'s PC seems to be doing a lot of Page Faults (184/s) and Page Ins (724/s) (compared with 3/s & 4/s on my machine). This may be an indication of an inadequate amount of available RAM.
Hope this helps

Hi damiafix,
Was the data for the System Info and Processes collected at the same time ?
The System Info says 24 processes, but I only see 17 in the list of Processes.

Hi damiafix,
I\'ve found a useful article about the Windows Swapfile at the following URL:
http://www.pcforrest.co.uk/swapfile.htm (\"http://www.pcforrest.co.uk/swapfile.htm\")
It may also be worth reading:
http://www.pcforrest.co.uk/streamlining_startups.htm (\"http://www.pcforrest.co.uk/streamlining_startups.htm\")
and http://www.pcforrest.co.uk/vcache.htm (\"http://www.pcforrest.co.uk/vcache.htm\")
Is it possible for your friend to temporarily borrow some extra SDRAM from your PC to see what difference it makes? If he buys another 64 or 128 MB, it might help improve the performance of his PC generally.
Perhaps not significant (?), but I notice that your friend\'s EXPLORER.EXE process has an In Memory amount of about 14 MB, whereas my PC seems not to go above approx. 4 MB.

Hi damiafix,
MSGSRV32.EXE is Microsoft\'s Windows 32-bit message server and its functions are described at the following URL:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q138/7/08.asp (\"http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q138/7/08.asp\")
Hope this helps
