images/icons/shocked.gif DAMN!!! That demo is AWESOME!! I really, really love how this library sounds. It has a very distinct sound to it. And I absolutely love that composition, Maarten! I give it 4 thumbs up!

I must say that I am VERY impressed with EWQLSO, especially the brass stuff. That was always the weakness of the Roland stuff when I was doing this back in the day. I had to \"write around\" the library weaknesses so much of the time. If I have to say a weak point I am hearing in even the best of these demos it is the solo violin and some of the cello stuff, which sounds almost too close mic\'ed as opposed to the ambience of the other instruments. And let me say that the ambience that is imposed by the hall recording technique (no one is using any other \'verb on these demos are they?) just blows me away.

Oh, giver of horny sounds. That is fantastic. The only other demo from ewql that was any good was that Tunnelling one by what\'s-his-face. images/icons/grin.gif
Do I sound like a guy sucking up for a good price on trumpets or what
In all seriousness this is one of my favorite of all your pieces and lets face it, there aren\'t too many dogs in that bunch. Very very nice. It goes into logic tonight so I can use it as a template to try and puke out a comp of my own. Thanks always for the inspiration.

Amazing. The brass is so authentic. images/icons/shocked.gif

Very cool demo. Sounds to me like Maarten used more close mics on some of the low strings and bones, which I thought was really effective.

Mister M.
Love that piece.
I enjoy in general the way you play with tensions. Rubs me the right way.
Definetly the type of writing I like best in the orchestral genre.

Spruit vs. Silvestri vs. Grieg
Darkness. In a light way.
I adore it.

Great music! I\'m very impressed by the brass and the percussion.. woul be interesting to hear pure string demos and woodwind demos.

Thanks to all! images/icons/smile.gif
Spinach, Nick,
This demo is a combination of Stage and Surround mics. No Close.
About the solo strings, I love them this way. It\'s not a classical performance, but filmmusic, so an \"extended\" sound image is a must and pulling the solo strings up front works really well to get that freaky, agressive sound you want. images/icons/smile.gif It\'s also neccessary to make them audible at all in a big mix like this. For a traditional recording, you would\'t even have to write for solo string this way. You wouldn\'t hear it. Unless of course it\'s a real solist standing before the orchestra. But then again my lines are not solistic enough for that. images/icons/wink.gif
Anyway... listen to Signs and you will hear how close sounding the solo violin is there and how marvelous it works! images/icons/smile.gif
Oh and all ambience is from QLSO, true. Mostly the stage ambience you\'re hearing, with some of the instruments (e.g. horns, tubes, glocks) in surround ambience.
Best,
Maarten

Nice Piece Maarten!
I don\'t mean to be a D-bag, but I would have liked to hear more of the hall in this piece.
Again, very nice work!

Well the theme from the second half seems strangly similar to me... shouldn\'t the name of the demo be: death... \"Grieg\"? images/icons/wink.gif

Hehe Grieg wasn\'t a direct inspiration for this one. It didn\'t cross my mind.
I think the theme in the second half is more influenced by Tchaikowsky, but then again I\'m not sure I\'m familiar with the Grieg theme you\'re talking about, so I can\'t really compare. images/icons/smile.gif
Best,

Mr. Spruijt,
I think people are referring to the infamous work of Grieg named: \"In the hall of the Mountain King\". I am sure you know of it and I am sure you will see a linkage.
But I think its wonderfull to hear influences of others. You do it elegantly.

Best,
Maarten <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">I definately got more of a Tchaikowsky feel from it. But very original nonetheless. Well done.
As far a Grieg goes...well, I guess...if you stretch...it sounds like Grieg.
Anyway, I hate that. Why do people have to compare. Just take it for what it is. I liked it.
The most common response I get is, \"It sounds like (insert composer here).\"
My typical response to that, \"What are you talking about? I was trying to rip off John Williams.\" images/icons/grin.gif

Hi Maarten,
(sorry for replying so late, I was on a honeymoon images/icons/wink.gif )yes, Isabella is totally right, that\'s the music your theme reminded me. It is very famous so maybe your subconscious has got it\'s fingers in the game. Please listen to that piece and you will certainly aggree. But anyway it\'s only the theme, the orchestral colors are different and very nice in your music images/icons/smile.gif ,
Markus.

Mr. Prophet,
I dont know how familiar you are with Grieg. It cannot be much. You dont have to \"stretch\" anything in order to understand the clear influence. Whether its subconscious or not.
I think its nice to hear that people are influenced and I dont oppose that. In fact I think its a nice way of appreciating the past.
So its a complement from my side, not criticism.
I would advice you to listen carefully to \"Hall of the mountain king\" and then Maartens piece.
I take for granted that your use of the word \"original\" refers to Grieg.
