Hans,
I\'ve been holding off purchasing your wonderful Malmsjo piano because:
A. Unity Session couldn\'t open Giga compressed files and hence I couldn\'t use with it my set-up.
B. You didn\'t make an EXS24 version which would require me to manually adjust a lot of it.
C. The economy....ahhh, the economy!
For $50, I\'m more than willing to put the extra time into it!!! Look for my order soon!
You have my order, and my thanks. images/icons/grin.gif Thank you, thanks you, thank you. I was also putting off buying this piano.
I CAN FINIALLY STOP USING GIGAPIANO YEA YEA YEA... um, sorry I got a bit carried away. graemlins/tounge_images/icons/smile.gif

Daniel and BluesWest,
I can check how well the translation is done by Halion, and Kontakt. I don\'t have the EXS24 sampler yet.
Is there anyone else on this Forum, that can report about their experience using Cool Vibes with either Halion/Kontakt/EXS24? How you did the translation, etc.(Native/Translator/CDXtract?)

In another thread here on NS, Tob had mentioned how he used only a little tweaking in Megatrigg to get what he was after (using the pedals a little differently), but now with Halion2, it\'s even easier than that. Cool Vibes works like a charm - wonderfully articulated, expressive and delightlfully moody as well. (The Ocean Vibes setting is my current favorite effect. images/icons/wink.gif )
As is, check out the demos and listen to their sound - if it sounds good to you, you won\'t be disappointed.
(I also jumped at this offer and picked up the Malmsjo - if it\'s programmed 1/10th as well as Cool Vibes, it\'ll be a delight to play - and for $50? Yowza!)

Hans,
Give how many users are inquiring about an EXS24 version, you might consider offering an EXS instrument file on the CD-Rom.
Perhaps I\'ll send you mine after I convert it and tweak it to sound as close as possible to the Giga version (I usually A/B the Giga and EXS versions to insure that they match perfectly).

Midphase,
Thanks, I may take you up on the offer. The Malmsjö doesn\'t have that much \"fancy\" programming, but it is diligently programmed to achieve seemless dynamics in the velocity response. I do have a number of customers using it with EXS24, and they seem to be happy with the import. Some of them hang out on the Yahoo!group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/exs-users/?yguid=102863230 (\"http://groups.yahoo.com/group/exs-users/?yguid=102863230\") ) for \"EXS-users\", and I usually refer to this user group when asked about compatibility.

<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">Electronic Wind Instrument - Steiner-Parker/Akai. Plays sort of like sax, with an analog tone module. Tom Scott and the Yellowjackets\' sax player use one. Hard to find these days, the Yamaha Wind Synth with VL-70m kind of took over the slot. The EWI has very sweet analog sounds...

The piano has a wonderfully soft tone that sits perfectly in an orchestral setting. Plus it has a personality about it that I haven\'t heard in any other piano library. It\'s ridiculously cheap, and when cutting THAT price in half, you\'d be insane not to purchase it. =)

Jamie,
I asked a Yahoo!Stores consultant about the survey, and also about a \"thank you-reward\" that evidently pops up for some customers.
He claimed that those only appear for customers generated through Yahoo! Networks, and that I didn\'t have any control over them. I am a little annoyed over this, but otherwise I am very happy with the Yahoo! service.
If anyone has had these experiences, and was bothered, let me know. I may try to bring it up with the Yahoo! people again.

Got your piano in the mail today but Kontakt can\'t import it or even see it. It just says they\'re unknown filetypes. I\'m on a Mac so these .exe files are hard to deal with but maybe I\'m missing something simple. I guess I have to change the .exe files into .nki or .gig files but how do I do that if Kontakt won\'t see \'em? Stuffit 7.0 or 7.01 won\'t do it. It keeps crashing the app.
Is anyone using this piano on the Mac with Kontakt?
Thanks
Hans Adamson

Michael,
Stuffit will expand the compressed file. You may have to download the newest freeware version.
1. Load the CD into your CD-ROM reader.
2. Copy the file \"Mag 20 Kontakt.exe\" onto your desktop.
3. Double-click on the Stuffit icon so that the \"Drag and Drop\" window opens.
4. Drag the file \"MAG 20 Kontakt.exe\" over the window, and drop it.
5. The Stuffit software will expand a folder named \"Malmsjö Acoustic Grand\". This folder contains the .nki program files as well as the \"Malmsjö Acoustic Grand Samples\" folder.

Totally cool guys. Thanks. I had actually done everything right but I think I had so many different versions of Stuffit on my drive that the prefs got all screwed up. I deleted everything, trashed the prefs and installed a fresh copy of Stuffit 7.03, D/L from Aladdins\' site and voila!
As I wrote this it had expanded and now I\'m looking at some .nki files.
Thanks a lot
(now I have to practise)
Oh oh, It looks like I spoke too soon. I can see the .nki files in Kontakt but it won\'t load \'em. What\'s up with this? Maybe the file names are too long. Well, if it\'s not one thing, it\'s your mother....as they say.
Guess I\'ll make a copy and shorten the file name.
Wish me luck
OK, I shortened the suffix and it now recognizes the file but it says it can\'t find the sample to load it. What to do? Ahh, computers......complex solutions to simple problems!
Guess I\'ll shorten the suffix to the original file and see what happens. If you guys have any other ideas I\'d love to hear \'em.
Hans Adamson
09-13-2003, 03:25 AM
Michael,
I don\'t know why your Mac isn\'t recognizing the files as .nki-files. I have tested the procedure on OS 9.1, without any hiccups.
If Kontakt reports that it cannot find the samples, it should normally give you the option of looking for the sample folder, and you may specify its location on the hard drive. When this is done, the instrument will load, and you can then resave it. The next time you load the instrument, Kontakt will know where to look for the samples (.wav\'s).
I have e-mailed you new nki\'s, so you can check that your nki\'s are not damaged. Replace the Malmsjö nki\'s in the Malmsjö Acoustic Grand folder with those. They should have the file names:
Malmsjö Acoustic Grand.nki
Malmsjö Acoustic Grand X.nki
Malmsjö Rock Grand.nki
Malmsjö Dream Grand.nki
Malmsjö Mozart Grand.nki
Malmsjö Midnight Grand.nki
In the Malmsjö Acoustic Grand folder, there should also be a folder called \"Malmsjö Acoustic Grand Samples\". This folder should contain 377 individual samples named such as: \"0_A0.wav\", \"1_A0.wav\", \"10_B0.wav\", \"100_A#2.wav\"...etc.
Try it this way, and let me know what happens.

Just a quick question, since I\'m translating these from Giga to my format is there a sustain patch that isn\'t as large as the 900 meg pedal down patch. I agree, that in retrospective, it would have been relatively easy, and providing strength to the library to include sustained samples without the motor engaged.
My goal going into the session was to create a sample that would recall Milt Jackson, and the medium speed tremolo he was using. (The motor speed is modeled after his recordings.)
In retrospect of course it would have been a valuable option, but it would have made the library almost twice the size.

Cool Vibes includes patches with different stage setups: Left, Right, Center, Wide, Collapsed. These perspectives are programmed within GigaStudio. The recording itself was done rather close.
To determine wether the instrument is suitable for your music, check out the demos.

Then drag the compressed file over the window, and drop it. Stuffit will recognize the compressed RAR-file, and decompress it.

Well, perhaps a future update? Then we could edit the GIG files and use mod wheel to turn the motor on and off...<font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">The chances of this working are slim to none. Getting the imaging to match up in disparate stereo recording sessions is virtually impossible, unless you literally do not move the microphones. Even if you spike everything, you can get a radically different stereo image from just one tiny degree\'s difference in microphone angle.
Especially with a room-engaging timbre like vibraphone, you\'d have to re-record the vibrato samples in order to update the library successfully with interchangeable vib/non-vib behaviors.
I\'d say enjoy it for what it is...a really nice, jazzy sound that does one thing very, very well.
It could certainly also be used in an orchestral setting. You\'d want to collapse it to mono and process it with your upstage instruments in order to give it the proper size.

Hello Jose,
I am looking into why the file names get scrambled in Stuffit. When I tested on our compressed 2.0 update files there were no such problems. You are the second customer using Mac that has come across this problem, and I have verified it now.
Stuffit is adding extra characters to the end of the file names. When it comes to the .wav-files, everything that is added after the file extension \"wav\" need to be deleted.
In the Malmsjö Acoustic Grand folder, there should be a folder called \"Malmsjö Acoustic Grand Samples\". This folder should contain 377 individual samples named such as:
\"0_A0.wav\", \"1_A0.wav\", \"10_B0.wav\",
\"100_A#2.wav\"...etc.
The nki files should be:
Malmsjö Acoustic Grand.nki
Malmsjö Acoustic Grand X.nki
Malmsjö Rock Grand.nki
Malmsjö Dream Grand.nki
Malmsjö Mozart Grand.nki
Malmsjö Midnight Grand.nki
Because of this renaming, Kontakt may ask you to manually locate the samples the first time. If you save it then, Kontakt will know where to find them next time.

I have found out that the letter \"ö\" is causing the problems with Stuffit. This letter will be replaced with a regular \"o\" from now on.

Still waiting to hear whether anyone has succesfully imported either the piano or vibes into Kontakt or HALion. I\'d like to purchase both libraries, but need that information before doing so.

Yes, hello.... I have imported the Malmso (or however it\'s spelled) into Kontakt and it works like a dream.
It\'s just like Hans has said. If you delete all the characters after the suffixes .wav and .nki Kotakt will see the files. All you have to do is point to the first sample and Kontakt will remember the path. This is on a Mac. You must use Stuffit 7.03.
But by the time you read this Hans has probably fixed it and got some updated Cds out for Mac users.

And, this would be why I need to check in here more often. Very nearly missed out on an amazing deal!
Anyway, my MAG order\'s in. Like so many others, I\'ve been in love with the sound forever but needed a compelling reason to justify buying another piano. This sale provides that, and I\'m sure I\'ll be kicking myself over all the lost time I could have had with your library if I had just given in sooner.

Thanks all of you!
Michael,
I found that the letter \"ö\" in folder names caused Stuffit to add characters to the file names when decompressed.
This character is now removed.
Also, a reminder that this is the last day of the sale.
