View Full Version : Action piece...
WOW pretty neat bro. Maybe a silly question as I\'m still new using software and most of the stuff I write are slower pieces and not nearly this complex, are you able to play this via midi controller or is it all done via software notation programs?

Hey Aaron,
Indeed, long time no hear. Terrific orchestration man. I would have liked to have heard one tiny spot for the orchestra to breathe, (not to mention the f**ker being chased!) but it is a terrific use of frenzy. I can\'t help but think, with music like that he has no chance what-so-ever, of getting away. images/icons/smile.gif
great stuff

Thanks for the kind comments-
No QLSO brass was used in this piece. Yes, I did use trumpet repetitions from VSL. This was done on my keyboard without any notation sequencing of any kind.

It\'s been awhile since I posted a piece, so here\'s a short action-y piece I did for a company in NYC.
Comments/Suggestions all welcome -

That\'s really very good Aaron! I would loose the gratuitous horn swell right at the end though but that\'s just me. Are those VSL performance repetitons on the Trumpets near the start?

Hi Aaron,
Sounds like what I would expect coming from you (excellent). Very multidimensional textures (:50-:55) is my favorite - ah shucks it\'s all good. Nice VSL trumpets!!!
Good to hear from you again.

Sounds great. Cool composition.
Your music always moves really quickly from one segment to another. Sometime you might wanna try to let it evolve with a slower pace. Just a suggestion.
Great job
Very cool Aaron! You got your own style! images/icons/smile.gif

I\'m gona be a spoiler - but the piece really need more coherance in it\'s structure. I didn\'t get that feeling that the orchestra or someone else were chasing someone. It was rather that the orchestra needed to play the piece really fast in one breath. images/icons/confused.gif
I know I\'m pain in the ***, but I think you have good to hear it anyway. Most film composers has a coherance in their music, so listen some more on that or classical music and adopt it to your style.
The number one rule in composition: Repeat, repeat, repeat! But with some variations. images/icons/wink.gif
Also, \"rests\" are your friend not foe!
Anyway I hope this helps, If not I\'m just another (flamed) sucker on planet earth. images/icons/grin.gif

Nice energy as usual Aaron, but I must admit I didn\'t like it much. The harmonies seem pretty random to me. Seems like you recorded something - then something else on top - then some more etc etc... without having any \"scheme\" as to what the harmonic progression should be, so it just feels random and schizofrenic. You know I know you\'re talented:) But it needs more structure (have to agree with Falcon1 here).

Hehe, thanks for the comments. BAH WITH STRUCTURE, BAH! images/icons/smile.gif To be honest, this is my first real actiony sequence, so I\'m sure with time I can improve my technique as far as coherence goes.
Anyhow, the company liked the piece, and that\'s all I was really aiming for.

Great job, Aaron.
I think perhaps it could use a bit more bottom end though.

Satie was criticized by contemporary composers (Debussy?) that he needed structure, form. Satie\'s next pieces had the subtitles \"In Form of a Pear\"...
Keep up the good work Aaron!

I have to admit I prefer Ambush, it seems to hang together better. But both pieces show your talent.
Don\'t worry about structure too much, it\'s something that will come about naturally with time and \'seasoning\' (defined as, \"having burned out on this paarticular theme, but absolutely have to have another 2 hours of it done by Tuesday, how the heck do I stretch it out?\" images/icons/wink.gif
