hehe the classical Gradus ad Parnassum

I have it in Mann\'s Study of Fugue and it\'s quite funny, love the master-disciple way of writing

Counterpoint by Fux is a completely revised version covering through three-part counterpoint. It\'s purpose is to teach writing in each of the modes. If you\'ve had any background with chords and chord scales, you\'ll appreciate Fux\'s modal approach. Also teaches reharmonization within each mode.

Hi Peter,

could you please tell me the difference between the original Rimsky K. book and your revised edition?

I own the original version and was wondering if the additions justify the purchase.

Thank you

Thank you <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">There are quite a few differences. This is the first of 8 volumes. In this first volume I fulfilled Rimsky\'s original wishes of adding orchestration notes. Every section was checked and edited by a member of Jerry Goldsmith\'s orchestra. So I know they\'re accurate.

Rimsky came up with an ear training approach to orchestration when he created the chart showing low /medium/high/very high for the ranges. Nearly all the examples, in full page score, follow this approach.

This means you have a ready reference for evaluating your samples to see how each instrument sounds in a particular register, and then to compare that back to the samples.

Next, I fulfilled Rimsky\'s dream of having examples from other composers. All of the examples are recorded on low cost CDs and all of the scores are PD, so you can get the full scores from Dover.

Now blend in GPO, which we also represent, and you\'ve got a powerful learning package. Later in 2004, we\'ll release MIDI files of key examples for you to re-orchestrate and test.

Hi Peter,

I went to download the free guides on your site but was unable to as it required a US zip code (I live in the UK) - how do I get around this? Also, how much would it be to ship one of the John Williams scores to the UK (it\'s unable to show this unless you fill out all of your payment details.

Cheers, Doug.

To get around the postal code issue, just use ours: 90034.

I need to know which JW score you want. One note about this, however. For the sake of integrity, every JW order that goes out, can be tracked, and this applies to our International orders, too. This way you know it went out. So your order is both trackable and insured, plus it normally arrives within a week or so.

E-mail me at peter@truespec.com with the score, we\'ll check the weight and e-mail you back the price.

Thanks for the info. I\'ll also pass this onto our web master to see how we can improve this for outside the US.

Hello Peter,

thanks for the info. It sounds like you have very nice resources in that book. Do you also provide the audio examples of the Rimsky material that are annotated in the original book?

Thank you

Thank you <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">No, in fact, it\'s a bear finding either the original scores (Belwin threw them all away years ago) and many of the older scores aren\'t recorded either.

However in mid-2004,we\'ll be releasing CDs as a separate package for most of the examples in the book.

A year or so back I bought both the Rimsky book and \"orchestration: a practical handbook\" from peter. Both are a great resource. I can\'t say enough about them images/icons/smile.gif
