View Full Version : Can't launch GigaStudio160V2.0 after upgraded from GigaSampler1.62

I Can\'t launch GigaStudio160, the program just hangs while it\'s initializing (directsound, or whatever).
It was working fine with the gigasampler1.62, mainly reason I want to upgrade it only for better polyphony and more GSIF output channels (160/32outs).
I knew that someone had this problem before but it sounds a little bit difference. Well it\'s an Upgraded version, I\'m not sure what I did any wrongs? Of course the first tried is I did re-install then run diagnostic program. I really need your help!

BTW, I have three diff. type of harddisk format: FAT16, Fat32 and NTFS, looks like the diagnostic program only reconizes FAT16 (~2GB). Question is might be a problem or not? (I don\'t care the NTFS, it just NT/Win2K Apps, but I do care my fat32 which is about 10Gb partitions). Your helps would be highly appreciated.
Here is the diagnostic report:

It’s important to realize that when GSt starts for the first time, it catalogs every gig and wav file on all hard drives. This takes a LONG time. It may appear that your system has hung, and Task Manager may report that GSt is not responding, but just let it be. Let it sit for a couple of hours if necessary.

Thanks Bill, I will try it when I get home. I don\'t mind to wait 3 hours if it works (I was waiting 1/2 hr last night already).
I would let you know later, how it goes.
Best regards,
LHong

Again, thanks Bill, you have saved my life on this! http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/cool.gif
You are right, It was taking a long long time to finish the process initialization. It would be nice if the Giga could notifies us what it\'s trying to do, some kind of the message like Microsoft Windows, durring Giga\'s scanning the harddrive. Maybe Nemesy didn\'t see it makes senses when he has never realized how much times it would takes for scanning of 50~100GB of application programs and sample programs. It is about 45Min. in my case...It\'s so funny that giga was an invisible software program, even the OS couldn\'t reconizes that there was any exiting giga still being running...
My purpose is not trying to complain much in here, maybe just telling what is it\'s happen when the first time to launch the upgraded-GigaStudio. I\'m sure the Nemesy wouldn\'t ignores it, also other user need to be expected it as well. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/confused.gif

Anyway, it works very well now! I\'m very happy to get fully 160 Voices, 32 output channels at 44.1k/32B, zero DB level without pops, crakles, clicks...the best quality sounds I\'ve ever heard. WOW!!! the DAW only takes about 20%-40% of CPU/MEM system when I run three programs at sametime (Cakewalk-->GigaStudio-->Pulsar-DSP), I could mixdown at realtime with hardware DSP-processing without to record it to waves (DAT/ADAT/CDW players). http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Thanks Nemesy, Creamware and Tascam who are providing the top-of-the-lines quality in digital-audio-recording in PC-BASEd-SYTEMS with the reasonable prices. I\'m not a real Pro, but I see choosing right tools are the most important how your music would be sounded.

I\'d like to share with all of you here about my setup, I know most of you have been busy enough to shuffle all kind of soundcards, Fx-effect-processing, digital-mixers, ultitily-plug-ins, etc...yes, many equiqments would be comimg out of the market every days for addressing the needs for our recording studio because of limitation of the audio-tools and because of no tools can does everything. Don\'t forget as a real Pro, you should know your system and your tools from A to Z, you know which button you should use and how far your tools can go to meet your requirements.

P/S: I just got the two addional pulsarI for $399.00 EA, Tascam TM-D1000 DIG-MIXER for $500.00 EA from Guitar-Center clearance sale, just getting 1/3 cost of retail prices.

Papa, how to compare the PIII vs Athlon? As I mentioned it earlier, I would tell/hear the problems and I also would share the sucesses as well. http://www.northernsounds.com/ubb/NonCGI/images/icons/smile.gif
