    OT: Need advice on what midi controller I should buy

    hi all, sorry for posting off-topic post here but I haven\'t got any response in the Hardware forum.

    Few days ago, I did some search on MTLC.com and found few midi controllers which fits in my price range and needs - I think.

    They are:

    * Oxygen 8 - http://www.mtlc.net/main.php?a=Products&ShowItem=389&b=All
    * PC 300 Keyboard (Roland Ed) - http://www.mtlc.net/main.php?a=Products&ShowItem=481&b=All
    * PC-70 (Edirol) - http://www.mtlc.net/main.php?a=Products&ShowItem=979&b=All
    * PCR-30 (Edirol) - http://www.mtlc.net/main.php?a=Products&ShowItem=801&b=All
    * PCR-50 (Edirol) - http://www.mtlc.net/main.php?a=Products&ShowItem=805&b=All

    Could you share your oppinion about these products, and if you have other suggestions please let me know (Max $250).

    Btw. It needs to be easy to setup with Cubase/Kontakt.

    Thanks in advance!

    Honestly, I don\'t know what you would use an Oxygen 8 for other than in a live situation.

    Of the above choices, I would say the PCR-50 is your best bet.

    You might want to check out the M-Audio Radium. It has similar features and is in the same price range I believe.

    <font size=\"2\" face=\"Verdana, Arial\">I\'d agree. I generally prefer that my controller have more than 2 octaves.

    If you can, try before you buy. The feel of each one could make a difference in your decision.

    Hi Falcon, I\'m not overly familiar with the models you posted but have a couple of thoughts;

    - Try to get as many octaves as you can. An 88 note controller if possible. Many sample lib\'s pop the keyswitching keys on the bottom octave. Depending on the instrument, you may not be able to re-assign these keys.

    - Try to get one that has at least a couple of faders so you can assign CC11 expression, etc. (Roland keyboards have the joystick unfortunately)

    - Dont worry too much about weighted keys unless you are a trained pianist, it wont make any difference to laying down violin parts, etc, etc.

    I\'m currently in the same boat right now. I heard that the M-Audio Radium is supposed to be good:

    I\'m also considering the Evolution MK-361C:

    by the way, i think it\'s really time that a compagny release a true high end midi controller with 88 hammer weighted keys, polyphonic aftertouch,a ribbon controler, and plenty of knobs and sliders with individuals littles LCD\'s ( a la korg microcontrol or Nord Modular G2 ).....with the ever growing market of soft synths, i can\'t figure with nobody\'s building something like this, i would buy it in a heartbreak !
