Long time no see and an Aria question

Hi all! It's been awhile since I've been here. I hope everybody's well and much music is being made! I ran into an odd thing in Aria (yes all updated) when I load Instant Orchestra Snare Drum Rolls I get an error:

    Slot4
    <control#> unknown opcode:amp_veltrack=100
    <control#> unknown opcode:amplitiude_curvcc&=7
    <control#> unknown opcode:amplitude_oncc&=100
    <control#> unknown opcode:amplitude_smoothcc=50

The patch seems to play fine. I'm using ARIAx64 in SONAR X2 64bit in Windows7Pro 64bit. Everything is up to date and everything else works.

    Any ideas appreciated!

Nice to be back. Maybe when Altiverb is offered for Windows I'll be on here more often! :-)

---and the connection between Altiverb working on Windows and being on the Forum is---?*

So you have version 1.620 of both ARIA Player and ARIA Engine? You probably do.

What you're describing are opcode and missing instrument errors in IO that crept in during an ARIA update. BUT, back in February, I was told that IO v.1.03 was available for download at MakeMusic. That version definitely fixes these problems - But I had a look around MM just now, and couldn't find the update. -- ?

I have this question in to Chad, one of the ARIA programmers - He posted back in Feb. about the update - Hopefully he'll have some info for us.

    Randy

    * EDIT - But Altiverb already works on Windows - I think maybe you meant 64 bit?--but it's also that now too -

One more edit - Sonar X2 --- how's that going for you? I felt so burned by the debacle of X1, I have Zero interest in trying yet another version.

Talking Re: Long time no see and an Aria question

Hola Herr Doktor Bowser!!! Thank you so much for your wonderful (as usual) reply! I am up to date on every ARIA thing I can find so I will await Chad's info.

The Altiverb connection with this here forum is DPDAN, whom I love and respect. I have lusted after his use of Altiverb for years and he finally convinced me to get it. Altiverb DOES run on 64bit windows (as do most 32bit programs) however it does not run in a 64bit host (SONAR X2 64bit). I could install the 32bit SONAR app and use audio tracks recorded in the 64bit host there, but I really don't want the 32 bit app on my machine taking up space. I guess I'm just a curmudgeon who has dug in his heels. Aram over at Altiverb says that they're close - so I will bide my time.

About the X2 thing...after seeing the horrendous problems with SONAR X1 I stayed away as well. A lot of us did. 8.5.3 was my mantra and I was sticking to it. Well I tried a free download of X2 and they convinced me that they had listened to the feedback, took it to heart and ironed out the kinks. I really like X2 - especially the "prochannel" feature (for me it makes EQ-ing much easier) so I say jump in. Too bad they screwed up the X1 thing so badly.

That Instant Orch Snare and Rolls patch seems to perform okay so I'm not gonna sweat it too much, but if Chad has info I'd love to have it!

Ah! I was tricked by what I glanced at online yesterday about Altiverb. When I saw something about 64bit, I thought it meant there was a 64bit .dll file, but it looks like they're only saying 64bit "compatible"--apparently only meaning that, as you say, it will load up and work on a 64 bit machine, but only if you're using a 32 bit program. Hmm. They're really behind on getting that true 64 bit version available- 64 bit computers have been going since, when, like 2003--?

----(I still don't understand how the state of Altiverb somehow determines you being on the Forum--?--Maybe I need more coffee.)---

It's good to hear you like X2. I've always used the Studio versions of Cakewalk, and the Studio version of X2 doesn't have the Prochannel plugin so if I went mad and upgraded, I wouldn't have that. I wish the program didn't look so clunky and drab, and that they hadn't hidden so many things in menus. I'm still stickin' with me Sonar 8.5.

So you're a curmudgeon about not wanting more than one version of Sonar on your machine - I'm a curmudgeon about still not wanting to upgrade! But good heavens, I have every version of Cakewalk/Sonar I've ever had on this machine, including Pro Audio 9. I just counted - 9 Cakewalks! I don't feel they take up that much room, and with 100's of gigs of room all over the place, I'm not concerned. I'm funny though, I've had this 64 bit machine for a couple of years now, but I've only used 64 bit Sonar a few times. I keep working in 32 bit where all my Stuff works.

That's a round about way of suggesting you install the 32 bit version of X2, take up a few gigs doing that, and then you could use your Altiverb on tracks.

About the Instant Orchestra update that supposedly has been available since Feb, Chad replied to me - He seemed to indicate that I don't see the IO update at MM because I don't have the Library registered there. I'm registered, but the copy of IO I use is from when I helped to Beta test it, so there was no reason to register it at MM. So - I take it you're registered at MM - apparently you should see the IO v.1.03 update listed.

Re: Long time no see and an Aria question

I use jBridge - a very cheap (it was 15 euro for me) program to use 32 bit plugins in my 64 bit host. I use it on Altiverb specifcially.

    http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/

It also works the other way, allowing 64bit plugins to be used in 32 bit hosts.

Re: Long time no see and an Aria question

Hi Randy, I'm complaining about Altiverb here because I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way. I know, I know, curmudgeon!

and Plowking: thanks for the JBridge info. I've heard of mixed results on the Altiverb forum but will check it out.

Now...back to Instant Orchestra. I cannot find any updates to IO on the MakeMusic site (which admittedly is confusing to me). Here's a screen shot of my problem:

My Aria player/engine version is 1.620 (Win x64)

I did register my IO and ARIA at MM but cannot find update info. Help with that would be great.

    Any help appreciated!

Well dang - OK, Chip, this is what Chad is trying to find out - if the updated IO was really posted at MM the way it was supposed to be 4 months ago. I'll pass it on that it looks like it isn't there. What a drag - EVerybody besides the Beta team must be seeing these opcode and missing instrument errors. Stand by!

Meanwhile - You know Sonar has a built-in bitbridge which gets engaged with no effort from the user. If a 32 bit plugin is inserted in the 64 bit version of the program, bitbridge silently steps in and does its thing. But I'm rather sure you're saying that you've tried Altiverb in 64 bit Sonar and it doesn't make a sound - making it one of the plugins that doesn't get bridged properly, and there are a number of them. You can tell when bitbridge has at least tried to do its job - there's a different banner at the top of plugin GUI's with a dotted border.

Re: Long time no see and an Aria question

Chip - Here's an update from Chad:

"I just double checked, the latest versions of IO on registered user accounts will be:

    - 1.031 for Windows
    - 1.032 on Mac

Version 1.03 and above contains the fix for the missing instrument and opcode problem...He should be able to login and download the latest version.

    Best,
    Chad"

So - It's there, Chip. Look at your account page at MM again.

Re: Long time no see and an Aria question

Well darn it. Here is my "My Software" page (ser nos blurred).

AND...when I got to "Product updates" I am taken to a screen that lets me select "Garritan" (but no specific product) and "windows" and I get a "no results" message. SO...would it be possible to ask Chad where specifically at MM I can find this update? I am a registered user (as evidenced by the screen above). Help! Thanks!

EDIT: Do I just re-download the file named as "Instant Orchestra" on this page. If so I wish they would put the version number somewhere!
