Salzer:Composition in Counterpoin; Structural Hearing
Has anyone worked with any of Felix Salzer's materials. I have found them incredibly enlightening. He deals with the difference between contrapuntal chords and those that belong to harmonic progressions and structures. He also deals with chord prolongation . He builds off the work of Schenker but I find much more utility in his approach. I am getting a sense of how music is motion directed toward goals It gets me really excited about the potential of tonality as a system. Not in an effort to sound like Mozart but in it's richness as a viable musical system.
Edit: I misspelled the name originally-it should be Salzer not Sazer but apparently there is no way to edit the way the topic appears on the General Discussion board.
