I saw a great movie last night called \"On Golden Pond\" starring Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn and Jane Fonda. The score is composed by pianist Dave Grusin. I really liked the sound of Grusin\'s grand piano in the score. It has a very distinct and focused tone.
If anyone is familiar with this score, could you point out whether there is a piano sample library that comes close to this particular sound.
For the jazz cats out there, I think a similar piano sound can be found on Chick Corea\'s legendary \"Three Quartets\".
I was just listening to a sample of the original soundtrack (you made me nostalgic - I always loved this movie) and it occurs to me that the best match in sound that I know of is the vr sound piano by Franz. There are many differing opinions on this library but I think that it is probably the best sampled Yamaha piano on the market (Please feel free to jump in here anyone if there is a better one-I am certainly no expert). I\'m sure you\'d have to tweak it a bit but I think it may give you the best results. I should qualify my remarks by saying that I do not own the library and cannot attest to its playability. I am going by sound alone. Hope this helps.
D. Grusin mostly uses Yamaha stuff, but I was thinking it was C7... I could be wrong. Don\'t know why that\'s stuck in my head. He has a collection of film scores themes called \"Cinemagic\" that is a great collection of some of his older movies including On Golden Pond. I don\'t know of a piano library that comes close, but I\'d love to find one!
