Has anyone had experience using the AT2020 mike?

Currently, the AT2020 condenser mike can be obtained new for around $100. I am thinking of getting it for studio vocal recording.

Does anyone know anything about it? Is it worth $100, or do you know of a better option (in your opinion) for that kind of amount? It would have to be a USB mike, or come with some kind of interface for hooking up to a PC.

I am not familiar with that particular mic but the Audio Technica mics I have used in the past were all solid mics. I wish I could offer some more, but I currently don't use any AT mics. I hope there are others out there who can offer more input into your question.

Thanks, Rich. Good to have feedback on the make in general.

I have the non-USB version of the AT2020. It is a solid mic for the price, definitely worth the $100. It's the entry-level Audio-Technica mic. Definitely not my go-to mic, and not perfect for every voice, but I have used it successfully on several male vocalists.

If you're looking for a USB mic, check out the Blue Snowball, it's also a decent mic. Switchable patterns too. I got one for my daughter, who is learning to record, and she records everything from vocals to woodwinds to brass to percussion with it, with good results.

I strongly suggest that you call or e-mail Sweetwater at http://www.sweetwater.com/

They are experts with mics (and a lot of other recording elements), very friendly and have always given me good service.
