University of IOWA Electronic Music Studios Steinway
A unique Steinway A recording by the University of IOWA Electronic Music Studios. The piano has 3 velocity layers recorded. Post Musical Instruments added a sustain pedal layer by using convolution techniques for a very convincing sustain pedal sound.
There are several programs, a small 500 MB one layer variation, and the main file (2 GB) with multiple layers. Some programs have real-time pedalling; when you press the sustain pedal the sustain resonance is added in real-time. Some programs have only 1, 2 or 4 programmed velocity layers. Product formats:

Re: University of IOWA Electronic Music Studios Steinway
Making an IR is a bit abstract. You need a ideal representation of the body characteristics of the piano. You can do that with the recording of a sweep tone. Or you can activate the body by impacting the body with a special instrument. Or you can activate the body by playing all 88 keys of the piano at the same time with and without the sustain pedal and later subtract the two recordings. We did all 3 things and -in my experience so far- nr 3 works best.
