A new piece from me...

This is my latest attempt with GPO. I recently got Cubase SX to use with GPO, but I have to say that I was completely shocked by it\'s complexity. There are buttons, knobs and sliders everywhere, and poor me haven\'t got the foggyest of how to really use them. Perhaps there is someone here who would be willing to explain the use of an equalizer to a complete novice. I\'m almost convinced that it is one of the keys to getting clearer mp3\'s. My mix downs always seem to be a bit muffled and muddy, and I can\'t seem to find a way to get rid of it.

Anyway, here is my next piece after numerous takes. Don\'t judge too harshly please! But I\'m eager to learn from comments and suggestions.

Louis, I have one word for you: OZONE

Visit the Izotope web site (do a Google search) and buy this plug-in. It will do absolute wonders for your mixes!

And you can just use the presets (try \"Symphony\") and get very decent results.

Re: A new piece from me...

    Louis,

After reading your request, I listened to your piece. I wish I knew a little more about you and your background. Right off the bat, I\'ve got to say that this is quite an ambitious piece. I think for certain you have a strong talent for writing. There are some real strengths in this presentation. I would encourage you to honor this talent with some research into the facets of your work that are screaming for attention! If you\'re going to harness the real power of the software that you have, you\'ll want to read up on basic engineering techniques. These are the \"nuts and bolts\" you have to deal with if you are not paying somebody by the hour to record your stuff for you. It seems to me that what you are hearing in your head may not be making it back to your ears. Pick up a book on arranging and see where you agree or disagree with the author. This will make you more aware of what you are searching for I think. When I find myself with a piece of music that has \"greatness\" but is missing that \"je ne se qua\" (I hope that\'s right), I start from scratch and re-sequence the peice. The strong parts become stronger and the weaker parts tend to work themselves out. Do you play an instrument? I think if you re-sequenced with the instrumentalists in mind you may be pleased with the authenticity that you can create. For instance, your use of percussion just didn\'t seem like real percussion to me. Like the cymbals came out of nowhere and were being used like a sound effect rather than an instrument. Other percussion instruments can help build the tension a little bit before your crash comes in; a subtle timpani roll crescendo into the crash with a single bass drum along with the crash. All in all, I think you are definitely on the right track. I wish I could describe better what I am thinking. You\'ve got something there, and you need to work a little bit to make it happen the way you want it to. If this sounds negative, I didn\'t write it right. Give us more!

    Louis,

I won\'t be able to listen to anything until tonight, I\'m at work, no PC speakers, but if you have any specific questions about SX feel free to PM or e-mail me, I\'ve been addicted to SX for quite some time...
