To Jon: Win 98 & Win XP (to all others sure also)

    Hi Jon,
you advised me on booting from two different drives. I called Asus if the motherboard I am going to buy will support this dual boot mode & was told yes, BUT they say: as soon as I have more than 512 MB in the board Win 98 is said to produce real trouble.

Can I not simply get it to ignore the RAM above that?

    thankx in advance

    Harry

    Hi Harry,

I\'ve never seen a motherboard that lets you turn off the RAM. I\'ve never used W98 on a machine with more than 512MB, but I know that other Giga users have. I have no idea what hoops they have had to jump through to do that though.

Sorry I can\'t give more help than this.

Any W98 users out there with more than 512MB???

Thankx guys. What will happen if I put more than one Gig into the board? Will I fry it?

I run 1.5 GB on my Asus MB. Not a trace of smoke. Many run 2.0 GB. For GS 2.5 and other tools, there doesn\'t seem to be any gain beyond 2.0 GB.

Win 98 can only use maximum of 1 GB but you have to change the vcache setting. There are threads regarding the settings to change if you do a search on the forum.

You will need to use WinXP/Win2K if you\'re going to use more than 1 GB.
