I am trying to connect 2 computers (each running W2K Pro) via a Cat 5 crossover cable. I eventually want to have GS160 on each computer, but for now I would like to set up the system so that I can access the second computer from my first. The cable is connected to each computer and there is an Intel Pro/100VE network card in each computer.
So where do I go from here?
Would anyone have some knowledge to share on this? If you would provide a link to any sites that would have a good account of this I\'d appreciate it.
Search for TCP/IP networking on Google. Assign the two computers IP addresses. Use the private block, for example... 192.168.0.1, and 192.168.0.2
For mask, use 255.255.255.0,
for gateway, use 192.168.0.1 (or the IP of your Internet router if you have any)
For DNS, (ue the IP of your Internet router, if not, just use 192.168.0.1 too)
Enable File sharing on both computers, set the directories that need to be shared, and I think you\'re done... not unless I\'m missing something from the top of my head.... (it\'s like driving, I can do this in front of the computer without trouble, but writing it down takes more work)
