Windows XP, Audigy 2, and Gigastudio.. compatible?

    Hello everyone,

Im about to pull the trigger on a new computer and am on a VERY tight budget (as Im jobless at the moment) but desperately need a new pc to run giga and house all my samples since my current pc is 3.5 years old and a complete mess. My main question is, if I get a pc with Windows XP home / professional with an audigy 2 zs 7.1 card or a soundblaster live card, will gigastudio work? Also, where on the web is a good place to get a custom computer built? Ive been doing alot of pricing over at ibuypower.com which is working well, Im just curious if there is anything else out there (besides dell and gateway). My budget is just under $1000. If I go through ibuypower.com where can I get a decent audio card (that isnt too pricey) that will effectively run giga with multi client capability and a low latency? Thanks in advance!

The Audigy will work if you use 3rd party drivers -- Kx Project. They\'re very solid drivers.

As for your new box, you can save considerable amount of money if you build your own. IT\'S NOT HARD TO DO (check the web for step by step instructions), takes about an hour or two. I built a screaming fast AMD machine with WinXP for about $600-700.

I\'ve been running it for about a year now, without any problems.

Thanks guys, it\'s all great advice.

Rob, can you give me a basic rundown of what youve got in your system and where you got the components? I cant seem to price a self built computer below a grand. Thanks!

Only downside to the live you need to use the kx drivers to get anything remotely similar to gsif.

    Its worth trying them though.

I would upgrade when you get some spare cash.

These prices are approximate. It\'s been awhile since I bought them:

    Gigabyte VIA800 Motherboard & AMD 2500+ Barton chip: $140

1 gig Kingston DDR Memory (two 512 sticks): $110

    Enermax 350 W power supply: $45

    Low Budget case: $25

    DVD/CD Burner: $90 (rebate deal)

    Audigy 1 soundcard: $40

Radeon 7000 dual display video card: $40

    Two monitors (rebate deals) $120

    Win XP Home: $80 OEM

Plus keyboard and mouse, comes out to around $700.

    Rich,

JMHO, I wouldn\'t bother with any SB card with Giga Studio. The GSIF drivers in the Echo Layla24 are rock solid for Giga and the ASIO drivers for Kontakt.

    JMHO, others may differ.

thanks again guys, I really appreciate all the help.

Do you think this system would work?

    P4 2.8

    Microsoft® Windows XP Home
Memory: 1 GB DDR 333MHz SDRAM (2 DIMMs)
    Floppy Drive: 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Hard Disk Drive: 80 GB EIDE Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    Video: 64MB GeForce4 MX 420 with TV-Out
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live! Digital Sound Card
    CD Read-Write Drive: 48X CD-RW Drive
    DVD Drive: 16X DVD-ROM

This one is going for around $800, not too bad.

Im also hoping to get Gary\'s new Personal Orchestra set up for my new pc.

I think the system will work just fine. I would, however, consider two things:

    1. A newer soundcard. The Audigy 2, or as has been suggested, a higher end card.

    2. Dual display video card. You do not know how wonderful it is to have two monitors to spread your work out on until you\'ve actually tried it. I could not live without dual monitors.

You can pick up an ATI Radeon VE for a really low price these days (about $35) and it\'s great.

    Hi,

A second hard drive is a must here..the
C: drive is for the applications..the Second drive must be for your libraries..
