Gigabit Network Switch - suggestions?

I need to get a gigabit network switch to tie my computers together. What do you guys suggest? I read somewhere linksys has a noisy cooling fan. I\'m lost. Any suggestions would be so appreciated.

Linksys does have a cooling fan, but it works great. I have 2 of them here at work. One is about 6 feet from my desk, and I can\'t hear it over the other ambient sounds here (it\'s not very quiet).

Martin thanks for the input on the linksys. I\'ve heard good things about it. I\'m mostly concerned it might be too noisy considering the room it will be in will have some recording going on.

Are there any other good brands to check into that possibly may be quieter?

I wanted to like Linksys, because it has the connections in the back, looks nice, and stacks with the router and Print Server. The noise was just too much, and since I had trouble with the router, I switched to Netgear. No problems there.

I bought this gigabit switch - I think you save a bit of money since it is a 5 port switch instead of the standard 8. Runs great, no noise.

Im not sure if they are available in the states though as they are an Australian company.

    Thanks guys!

One more question. What kind of cables are needed to connect one of these gigabit switches to the gigabit nic?

Or in English, standard ethernet cables work fine.

On PC COnnection, just do a search on \"CAT6\". You\'ll get more options then you know what to do with
