First try with GOS giga lite on my Mac

My GPO t-shirt and GOS giga lite came today (Sat) and I have had too much fun playing with them.

Getting GOS running in Logic Pro 6.4.2 with EXS24mkII was very easy.
I copied all the GOS GIGA files from the 3 CD\'s to a folder that I called GOSLite and put an alias of GOSLite into Logic\'s \"Sampler Instruments\" folder, started up Logic and opened an EXS24. GOSLite was in the main menu of EXS24 and in it were the 7 main GOS giga files, all I had to do was select them one at a time and EXS24 automatically converted them to EXS format. The time to convert the full GOS giga lite was just a few min. or so, not long at all.
GOS lite sounds great even before adding any reverb, because the cpu requirements of EXS24 are \"much\" less than the NI player that GPO uses it is possible to use many more instruments at the same time. I had 10 going at the same time and was only using about 1/8 of my cpu power if that.

This is a little test tune that I did with 8 GOS Lite instruments and a Space Designer on the output, kinda sloppy but it shows that GOS Giga lite runs well in Logic with EXS24.

Next week I will try GOS and GPO together and I hope to post a pic of my new t-shirt

Listened to your new piece with GOS giga lite done on your Mac. The sounds were great! As a Logic 6 user, I must ask if you sequenced the piece as though you were using MIDI instruments?

Also, how do you use controller #1 for volume control; or, is CC07 enough with the EXS 24? I have done a lot of MIDI sequencing since Logic first came out, but never worked with good sampling instruments like GOS and GPO. Actually, I'm hesitant to get on the bus for awhile since Logic and GPO (with the Kontakt player) aren't too friendly. I am really excited by GPO, but don't want too many hassles trying to get it work. I wish it weren't that involved

If GPO were as easy to run as GOS giga lilte with the EXS 24, I'd be in heaven. Will be buying a Mac laptop G4 1.5GHz (or a G5 if one comes out soon) with 1.5-2.0Gs of RAM. That should be a killer machine for GPO, but with the current problems............

Great job for your first GOS giga lite. Keep sequencing!

What do you see next after Logic 6 Pro from Apple/Emagic? Do you think Logic 6 Pro will be around for awhile?

    Aaron,

I am anxious to hear your piece but the link doesn't work for me. I'll keep trying.

The link is working again, the new forum did not like the old url=link way of adding links.

It was a "quick" and dirty test to get a sense of what GOS is like on Mac, no notation input just midi recording.

"how do you use controller #1 for volume control?"

I don't, that is way too much work for me (lazy?). What I do is record all the tracks then draw curves to add the dynamics (volume, exp...), this seems to give better results than using CC while recording.

"What do you see next after Logic 6 Pro from Apple/Emagic? Do you think Logic 6 Pro will be around for awhile?"

As I look into the future of Apple/Emagic I see:

    1) Pro 6 will around for the rest of the year (pre order upgrade to 7 end of year?).
    2) Emagic is working on some new toys to be included with Pro 7.

    a) Sculpture, component-modeling based synthesizer.
    b) UltraBeat, percussion synthesizer.
    c) Guitar Amp, guitar amplifier simulator (this one is very cool!).

    Aaron:

Thanks for responding so quickly. The info was great and I read the stuff on the Apple site you mentioned in your reply. Looks like Logic will be going great guns, but I still wish they had better concert orchestra instruments.

Wouldn't it be great if we could load GPO into the EXS like you did with GOS lite giga and just play away instead of going through the Kontakt player?

    Thanks again,

    John

    "Wouldn't it be great"

Ya it would, trouble is that EXS24 does not have the features needed to get GPO working on it.
Each instrument in GPO has a huge amount of programming that allows it to function the way it does, without that programming GPO would not sound good at all (think 1990's midi orchestra!).

The issue with GPO is the NI player, when NI gets the player working "great" on Mac then GPO will be awesome on Mac.
