    Can Kontakt load 48kHz samples?

    Just as the topic states...

Can the full version of Kontakt load 48kHz samples, or do I have to resample to 44.1kHz?

    Hi Alan,
Kontakt can work with samples of all sample rates, even mixed in the same file. So if you have 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz files all loaded in one instrument you don't have to do anything. Kontakt uses an internal re-sampling system to output any data in the sampling frequency set by your audio card.

yes... sad enough that the resampling engine is not that good...

check this out (counter tested by myself partially...)...

Soft samplers seem to be lagging behind...

    Thanks very much guys...

Good to know I can at least save that editing time... now back to chopping release triggers

Do you think any of the soft-sampler makers know about this, and care enough to do something, or not?? Anyone have any contacts where they can ask these questions??

Looks like there is lots of room for improvement...

Re: Can Kontakt load 48kHz samples?

    Hi Green...

well... they have to know... they know the tools they implement in their softwares: fact is that they have to strike a balance between sound quality and performance...

Lucky enough, here at Scarbee, we do not use resampling (in instruments: meaning that we are not likely to use one sample of a C4 for example to cover the C4-D#4 range...)...

Re: Can Kontakt load 48kHz samples?

So, as long as I chromatically sampled, there shouldn't be a problem?

Re: Can Kontakt load 48kHz samples?

    Yes...

as long as it is chromatically sampled and it is played back at the same Sampling Frequency used for the orginal recording sessions or for the sampling library release...

Chromatically at 44.1 > good for 44.1 projects...

at 48 you'll start hearing some serious Aliasing... at least my ears tell me this... and my eyes confirm it with those tests...

Re: Can Kontakt load 48kHz samples?

"at 48 you'll start hearing some serious Aliasing..."

With 48 as the project setting, using 44.1 samples - or - with 48 samples and the project set to 44.1?

Which would be worse case senerio? Samples are 48, my projects are 48, but I realize not everyone's here are set to 48...

Re: Can Kontakt load 48kHz samples?

Well.. the effects would be similar:

look at the diagrams in the link above mentioned.

samples @ 44.1 > song at 48 : effect equivalent to pitch raising
samples @ 48 > song at 44.1: effect equivalent to pitch dropping...

Different kinds of aliasing... look at those graphs... amazing...

    brrrr....
