Smile Using GPO Studio to listen at Sibeliusmusic.com

I found a cool thing this morning. If you go to:

    http://www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin...?scoreid=42102

you can make Studio the playback device, setup your instruments and play the music. I tried a string composition first and put a string section in Studio 1 and then this horn section in Studio 2. I saved the Studio file so I can come back and try other songs. I was surprised at how great they sounded as is.

This is a great Christmas medley by Mr. Hughes.

I STILL can't get Sibelius and GPO to work together.

    Hi John,

This would be incredible if GPO Studio can be confirugred to work with Sibelius Scorch. Could you provide instructions so others could set up Scorch to drive GPO Studio. If you don't mind I would like to share this with the folks at Sibelius. Do you have GPO Studio files you can post or send?

Thanks for this. Not only can people share Schorched notation files but the corresponding GPO soundsets as well.

Wow now I'm scarred! I didn't do anything except select GPO from the list. I had been to the site before but had never noticed the CHOOSE PLAYBACK DEVICE button (next to the right arrow). I pressed it and there were GPO Studios 1-8 (Also Maple Midi which I use for VSampler). Since I don't know what I'm doing yet (I'm a noob!) I just chose Gagli Solo for slot 1, Guarn Solo for slot 2, Viola Solo for slot 3, and Cello 1 Solo for slot 4. Then I would pick a String Quartet file and play it. It seems that for each song the top staff is Midi channel 1, the second staff is Midi channel 2... This means you may need to load the piano into 2 channels for bass and treble. The next thing I tried was combining instruments on the same channel say French Horn 1 Solo and FHorn Overlay F on channel 3. They seemed to both play. Sorry if this is confusing but it has been a blast! It's hard when you see the pizz notation and the notes are just short versions of the regular long notes but at my stage I can live with it.

Well, thanks for the jump start! It really works quite well. Main thing is to open GPO Studio before opening the score. When you open the Scorch file, you are then in a position to see what instruments to load and where to load them. This is a much better way than listening to the MP3 versions!!
