Akiko - demo with GPO & piano surprise

Akiko is a song written and performed by a friend of mine, Dominic Gaudious (www.dominicgaudious.com). He sent me the midi file, and I orchestrated it with GPO, Atmosphere and the Malmsjo Acoustic Grand.

The string section is GPO, with an Atmosphere string pad underneath. With the piano, I couldn't quite get the sound I was looking for. I tried the GPO piano, and it wasn't quite right. I tried the Malmsjo Acoustic Grand, and it wasn't quite right. So just for grins, I tried both of them together on the same part. It was perfect.

Let me know what you think.

The piano sounds very nice. Good tune, too.

The sustained strings sound kind of "blocky" most of the time. I'd go in and draw some mod wheel curves to give it some dynamic interest. I'd especially pay attention to the releases; at the end of the note, draw a quick mod wheel curve downward. It will make a more realistic sounding release. (Maybe that doesn't work with Atmosphere, though. I'm not familiar with it, so I can't say.)
