    Edirol FA-101 firewire card

Anyone got this soundcard? It's relatively new. Just curious if it's crap like M-Audio 410 or do we have a decent sound solution for portable set-up that doesn't go above $600US?

Have you taken a look at the ESI Quatafire 610?

This interface which I believe is available for less
than 400 Dollars/Euros seems to be much better
    bargain than the M-Audio part.

I have not heard though what the quality of the
    converters & preamps are...

The Edirol doesn't have GSIF drivers, if using it with Giga is your intention....

    Re: Edirol FA-101 firewire card

I'll be using it with my Mac/Logic/Exs-24. So no problem there.

I did look into the Quatrfire but there are no digital conections so I dismissed it. Cool that it has two midi in/outs
But again another company that I'm not quite sure about (Ego-sys).

That's how I feel about Edirol...ok it's made in Japan. That caught my eye and translated into better quality than Korean or China (my mistake for assuming this?). I would still love to hear how the OS X stability is and how clean and noiseless the preamps are (don't need top notch warmth just relatively clean)..and of course OS X stable

Thanks if anyone knows and can chime in.

    Here's an interesting alternative...

I know I like their preamps.

Hm - their website says that it has 24-bit 96kHz 2 channel S/PDIF.
Or were you looking for ADAT?

    Re: Edirol FA-101 firewire card

Tobias, you;re right. Thanks for that. I overlooked it.

I feel the size of the FA 101 and this Quatafire are just the in-a-backpack size that I'm looking for.

any users at all of these products?

Does Edirol have a better history at quality than Ego-Sys?

hv: Thanks for the info about Presonus. The problem is a 1U rack size is a bit big for my idea of mobile. If I had to do a 1U I was looking at waiting for the RME Firewire solution out this Summer.

If the RME would just have a lessy bulky, 2-pre solution = ideal.

I also I heard that Apogee is coming out with a firewire solution...but there a bit pricey for me.

So needing a device soon and needing something half 1U size, 2 mic pres, not too expensive with midi ports leaves me at FA 101, Quatafire (not interetsed in Firewire 410).
