Which application to transfer files over a network?

    Here's a beginner inquiry.
I have a Gigabit network that I use for my FX Teleport music network.
I have never used it to transfer files from one computer to another.
What application do I need in order to do so?
I'm on XP professional. Does XP provide such a feature built in?
    Thank you!

You don't need any special program. First you need to "share" the drives you want to use from a remote computer. Just open Windows Explorer on the machine that you want to copy from (not Internet Explorer), find the folder that you want to copy from, right click it, and select Sharing. Then click "Share this folder" and leave everything else at its default setting.

Next go to the computer you want to copy to, and open Windows Explorer. Open My Network Places/Entire network and keep drilling down until you see the name of the computer you want to copy from. You should see the folder listed under that computer. Find the file, right click it and select copy. Then in Explorer, find the location you want to copy it to, right click it, and select paste.

Alternately, you can access the administrative share (C$) on any computer by clicking Start/Run and then enter the name of the remote computer in this format:

    \\remote-computer-name\C$

That will open an Explorer window showing the entire C: drive of your remote computer. Do the same thing with different drive letters if you want a different drive. Then you can copy any file from your current computer to a folder in the remote computer.

while we're on networking - anyone know of a good util to measure the bandwidth of a lan? About to replace some network cards so would be nice to get a benchmark on the before and after...

Tried XP's built in perfmon but it doesn't give enough info.

    Cheers,
    Ian
