    Tcm Yfcc

does anyone have the latest info about the TCM film score competition. There doesn't seem to be any info on the TCM website. I'd like to know if this year's winners were announced yet, what their material sounds like, etc. Thanks.

    Unhappy Re: Tcm Yfcc

Haven't been on this site in a while and was just checking. Hard to believe, nobody has any info about the TCM competition?

They announced the winners at a ceremony in LA back in July. They put it up on their website, but they didn't really mention it on their home page, so I don't know how they expect anyone to find it. You can get to it here:

I ended up finishing 3rd. I would have liked to win, but what can you do? With over 600 entries it's still pretty cool to finish as high as 3rd. I'm happy with the entry I created for the finals even if it didn't win. Judging is always going to be subjective on something like this.

You can check out a higher fidelity version of my finalist clip here:

Here is the entry that got me into the finals:

I will eventually link all these things on my website, but I haven't gotten around to updating it yet:

    Re: Tcm Yfcc

Thanks guys! The new finals events were pretty amazing. They got the 5 finalists together in LA and did a lot of interviews that will end up on both CBS and on TCM. I don't know when they will show them. CBS is going to show them on their Sunday morning news. TCM won't show it until Michael is done writing the score to the movie sometime in January.

They gave us the star treatment for a few days. If only film scoring got that kind of recognition on a regular basis!

Jamie, I'm really interested in your experiences with this. Could you elaborate a little more about what you did when you got to LA, where you stayed, the people you were introduced to -- you don't have to go into personal stuff but just general stuff. I'd love to enter next year. Thanks.

Sorry that I never replied to this! The whole experience was a lot of fun. Mostly we just got lots of good advice on how to approach the industry, and things that we could do be more successful. The biggest thrill was going to be meeting Elmer Bernstein, but he was already sick at the time and couldn't be there.

For those interested in the whole process, they are airing a documentary along with the winners score tonight. The documentary airs at 8:00 and 10:30 EST, with the winners score packaged inbetween

I haven't seen the documentary yet, so I don't know how much time I get in it. Hopefully a few minutes or so.

To add to what Jamie said, the Documentary about the competition is on tonight at 8pm ET/5pm PT and 10:30pm ET/7:30 PT and the movie, The Temptress, starring Greta Garbo, will be presented with my new score at 8:30pm ET/ 5:30pm PT. The Temptress will be repeated on sunday, Jan.30 at midnight ET/9pm PT.

In addition to some great LA session players recorded at Todd-AO, you will hear a whole lot of EWQLSO and a dash of SD and Opus 1.

The documentary is great and you look really good in it, Jamie!

    Cheers!

    Jamie,

congratulations on your win. The documentary was cool. Have you left software to compose full time?

    Sincerely,

    Jonathan
