DPDAN's arrangement of Send In The Clowns

Hi everybody, I sat down to GPO and decided to do Send In The Clowns. I have always loved this song, and as some of you know, I have to do everything by ear because it's the only way I know. Not being able to play piano worth a crap is quite a challenge too, but actually I played all this, phrases at a time. With the help of GPO and Digital Performer this is what I came up with over the weekend. This was the first piece of music where I had the freedom to arrange it any way I wanted, without having to copy something from a previous recording and make it sound just like the original. Enjoy!

    Send In The Clowns

just these eight instruments were used

    English Horn 2 Solo
    Piano
    Violas Lush Mutes
    Vlns 2 Sus+Short Mutes
    Cellos Sus+Short Mutes
    Bass Lush Mutes
    Flute Solo V
    Violin 3 Guarn Solo

    Beautiful! Just beautiful!

It brought me to tears and I say that without shame.

This is a great, velvety arrangement of one of my favorite tunes.

    Best regards,

    Larry A.

Great job DPDAN. Very nice use of orchestral colors. I like your passing chords at 1:59. Wish I had your ear.

Hey, Dan, Sweet, real sweet. You gotta just love that English Horn. This will definitely go onto my "Relax to GPO" CD.

Dan I know you use Altiverb, What impulse did you use on this? I have so many, but I just must have missed this one. Anyway, this is really gorgeous. IÕm kind of glad you donÕt read music, or weÕd all be left so far behind.

    Take care,

    Karl

Man, I was looking out side my office window when the song started. From out of nowhere, ever so graceful as if to the tempo of the music, flew overhead a WWII vintage B17, a B29 and a Mustang. You had to be here to understand the effect. There was for a moment no other sound but this song. Not even the sound of the engines I did hear.
I understand this is a weird correlation but it happened.
I can't to tell you how this song made me feel Openly. But, I will tell you it is everything and more I ever heard before yet better. I mean this as the best of compliments. In the past few days there have been some outstanding demos posted and this is no exception. You truly did a wonderful job capturing the very soul of this song.

NOW GET THESE CLOWNS OUT OF HERE!

    Oh my word!
I can't tell you how wonderful all of your comments made me feel.
Styxx especially, it is obvious with your post that this effected you in a very sentimental and or spiritual way, well.... your post made me cry. I am just so thrilled to be able to make music. I wish I had written that tune, here's the lyrics if anyone is not familiar with this song.

    Have a great day everyone.
    Wow.

Isn't it rich, are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
    You in mid-air.
    Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss, don't you approve?
    One who keeps tearing around
    One who can't move
    Where are the clowns?
    Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours.
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
    Sure of my lines;
    No one is there.

    Don't you love farce?
    My fault I fear,
I thought that you'd want what I want,
    Sorry my dear
    But where are the clowns
    Send in the clowns
    Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich, isn't it queer
Losing my timing this late in my career
    But where are the clowns
    there ought to be clowns
    Well, maybe next year.

Hi Karl, I used the EMT 250. The setting was Reverb T4.0 Pre 110ms. low 1.8 high 0.3 I also inserted a DP parametric EQ in front of the Altiverb plug. The settings on the parametric were 5.3 db of boost @ 5335 Khz. There are so many killer sounding settings in Altiverb.

    bye bye, buy bonds
