Thumbs up Cheap, Versatile Midi Controller for Mac

    Hi Gang,

For those of you on the Mac platform who might want an alternative and very flexible midi controller - totally independent of your other midi gear - I just found this. Truly plug and play, I just tried the demo.

    http://www.steim.org/steim/junxion.html

With this little $29 application (OSX), your keyboard, or mouse, or scrollwheel,or trackball, or even GAMING JOYSTICK, or any other weirdo USB device, instantly becomes a programmable midi controller.

I've long NOT been a fan of the mod wheel, because the travel is so short it is difficult to really get fine control. But, with Junxion and a gaming joystick - I got the Saitek Cyborg EVO recently at Comp USA for just $19.99 - you have a very ergonometric and finely controllable device.

This also makes using GPO on the road with just a laptop a more refined and complete proposition. I haven't found any PC software as refined as this little app.

Thanks Trond!!! This looks like a GREAT solution!
I don't have a mod wheel on my main MIDI controller (Korg TritonLE) Nor my Yamaha Clavinova. The Korg has a spring loaded "joystick" and you have to physically hold it in place if you want a steady dynamic while playing/recording live. (though, this can be a very nice thing for realism, since not too many instruments are statically one dynamic for very long anyway). But my Oxygen 8 will have a mod wheel (it is supposed to arrive this morning!)

I am also a Mac user and have been looking for something like as well! Thank you VERY much for posting this!!

    Hi Jerry,

Your Oxygen will do the job, I have the version with audio, called the Ozone.

But, what could be better than a 3 axis joystick with a zillion custom buttons for keyswitching (you can send midi notes from switches with Junxion), vibrato, growl, etc, all instantly available with one hand? I can imagine some very sophisticated midi instruments being controlled conveniently in such a way.

Let us know how Junxion works for you.
