    Recommendations for celeste?

Any pointers to a good sounding set of celeste samples (preferably free)?

There's a pretty decent Celeste on XSamples Vol 8, its not free but probably pretty cheap these days.

For a one velocity layer instrument, the XSample celesta used to be a damn good one, and it came in combination with a very nice harp for something like $ 125 I believe. Check it out at www.xsample.de

It's not free, but I expect it's better than any freebie celesta you may find.

For a really good celesta these days I point to VSL. The one that's included in my Opus 1 is simply astonishing

You can find the upper octave as a free download at Sam's site

You can check this out too , it's a Glockenspiel "Played with both both brass and mallet" . Even though mono samples , i found it to be good :

The brass version sounds like a celesta i think

    Re: Recommendations for celeste?

The best Celeste I've ever heard was the one DS Soundware were once planning to release. They put up a demo right here at NS. It was unbelievable. Everybody was raving about it, new computers were being ordered, but suddenly ... no more sign of life. Some time ago our very own King tried to enquire about the matter but, unfortunatly, he had no success. It's like the celeste or DS Soundware never even existed. And yet, from time to time, when you walk through the crowd and you listen very carefully, you still hear people whisper, "DS Soundware, now that was a fine celeste."
