    Question IDE vs SATA

    Hi folk,
I found out today that the IDE drives have an 8Mb cache, while the SATA only have 2Mb.
Does the faster through put of the SATA really make up for the smaller cache?

Actually SATA drives do come with either 2mb or 8mb cache.

Use the search criteria on this page at newegg.com

    Interface: SATA
    Cache: 8mb

    Re: IDE vs SATA

    Thanx, Edward,
    But isn't a 9ms seek time a bit slow.
The Western Digitals say 8.9ms, the Maxtors say 9.x. The Hitachis seem a bit more decent at 8.5, but are not so well known ....
There was no mention of Seagate.

    Thoughts?

yes seagate barracuda are respectable drives, also another very fast one is the Western digital raptor, they are in a few different sized drives now I use the original that came out and no problems so far, everyonce in a great while you can hear it spinning but that is not very common.
I do not regret the things I've done, but those I was unable to do.
