    Italian Serenade

    Hi Everyone.

    Recently,I composed this Serenade for a special event.

    I used these instruments:

    Steinway piano;cellos lush;violin 1 Gagli solo;vlns2 lush;
    violas lush;vlns2 tremolo;oboe3 modern solo.

    Plugin:GPO Ambience Reverb

    For Juno Harpsi, bass and mandolin sounds, I used my Roland Jv 1080.

    Good listening here: http://zelazowa.altervista.org

    Thanks to all.

    Bye!

    Zelazowa-

    I listened to the piece three times.

    One man’s “serenade” is another man’s film score. This piece on one level feels “episodic” with a “start-stop” style that is very Italiam filmic at times. One thing that jiggles me a bit is the rampant parallelism, though that is also a characteristic of the genre.

    Since you don’t give a hint of what “special event” this was composed for it’s hard to put it in any “context”. To me, all of the GPO instruments are well used, though I have a few quibbles with the balance and mix. All-in-all, I’d got for a bit more counter-melody and less parallelism and a “softer” ensemble mix.

    I’d also go for a slightly broader stereo field and perhaps some additional strings to give it a bit more softness, as well.

    Just my $0.02 … KevinKauai

    Agree with Kevin - this is very atmospheric and would work well to picture. Good foreground/background mix, though like Keven said, I'd try to soften it up a bit and perhaps make the sections a bit more legato.

    There's an orchestration term called 'hiding the seams' which basically means making sure the sections flow into one another by having something happening during/over the join. Works for synthetic arrangements too.

    Other than that - very nice piece!
