    Talking Free Tracktion

I found this on daw-mac a little while ago. Tracktion is a slick little program worth checking out ...

"Mackie is giving away promo copies of their normally $80
    multi-track application Tracktion.

Go here to see what it is and sign up for a demo version:

    http://mackie.com/products/tracktion/index.html

Then go here to get the free authorization that takes it out
of demo mode for a free promo version.

    Hi Trond,

Thanks for the post. Tracktion is a fantastic sequencing program and quite different that the usual sequencer. And Mackie is a good company.

Good to see you back on the forum. Hope you had a good move and am enjoying your new home.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Trond:

Went to the first address and downloaded Tracktion. Second address did not provide "little hand" so I copied it to the address line. Got to the address, but did not see anything resembling "free authorization" that takes Tracktion out of demo mode. Any useful instructions?

    Hi Again Trond:

Downloaded the PC demo called, "TracktionPC_allexamples.exe. That was the larger of the two demos and had it put in a subfolder to My Documents folder called "My Downloads."

After download was completed I went to My Downloads folder and clicked on the icon to start the demo program and was immediately confronted with this message: "Warning--The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?"

I didn't RUN the program, just cancelled. What to do?

    Regards,

Go ahead and run it. Those Windows messages about not knowing the publisher are often harmless, or rather the publisher is often harmless in relation to that message, or whatever. Tracktion was a great program for $80 and now definitely worth checking out for free, especially for anyone looking for an easy to use and feature rich alternative to Cubasis VST.

I downloaded Traktion for Mac OSX (1.42 GHz, G4, dual, Jaguar 10.2.8). Everything went well. Looks great and may well solve the problem of heavy load on CPU for Mac users.
    Thanks for the information.

Thanks Markdod for the GREAT checklist. I followed it and received my unlock key file (LIC Number). The email said to SAVE the attachment to the desktop, then download the FULL Tracktion (not the demo) and put that on the desktop. Then apply the license number in the lower L.H. corner when the program is run.

When would you uninstall the DEMO version (as it has an uninstall feature) before downloading the FULL version or after?

Just don't want to delete any useful files. This is the first time I have ever downloaded a program on a PC because I have been a Mac user for 10 years. Sorry to be such a PC newbie.

    Re: Free Tracktion

Just a heads up that if anyone wants the upcoming version 2 of Tracktion, to give me a holler, as I may be selling my license for version 1 (probably for $50), which will give you a substantial discount for v2. I've got Sonar 4 now, so unless T2 surpasses that, I'll probably just keep the NFR version and sell my license. (And yes, the Tracktion license can be legally sold and transferred.) Having this free NFR version does not give you the upgrade path for v2, but having the license from v1 will.
