Any good DVDís with composers commentary, etc.?

    Hello again everyone,

I was curious if anyone knows of any DVDís that have good composers commentary, an interview with the composer and/or especially have a "music only" track? Some that come to mind are Lord of the Rings, Planet of the Apes, Stuart Little, and Pee Wee. Sometimes these are great references (especially the music only tracks!) so I would like to get my hands on some others.

On a side note, what DVD's in general do you suggest purchasing for the holidays? Your recomendation does not have to be based on music alone. We all like good movies now and then

Thank you in advance for the help!

The few I've seen are Signs and Matchstick Men. James Newton Howard for the first and Hanz Zimmer for the second. The Zimmer one is interesting because the first score he did actually didn't work. There was some discussion about how he worked through it. The Howard one was cool too. They show the final scene with and without music, so you can see how much it adds, which is a ton of course.

It's a long time since I hired it, but I believe Final Fantasy had an isolated soundtrack with Elliot Goldenthal commenting over the top of it.

The first Matrix has a music only track. And if you get the upcoming 5 dvd version of Lord of the Rings-Return of the King, the 5 bonus dvd is entirely dedicated to the music of the films. How it was done, interviews etc.

Blade has Mark Isham commentary on it.

I wasn't aware that SIGNS had James NEwton Howard on the commentary. I know there's a bit on him in the Making Of... section of the supplementry section.

"Jeepers Creepers 2" has the director interviewing the composer. The composer (don't recall his name) going into some detail about particular cues. Footage of the orchestra's recording sessions, etc. The enthusiasm this director had for the score was pretty fun to watch.
