Thought this might make a few of us think.
I just got a new Roland Fantom S88 at work and was going through the sounds. A lot of them are nice but I kept thinking "Where is the "Digital Native Dance" patch. Some of you may be too young to remember this patch but it sure sold a lot of D-50 synths for Roland. (ironically it was inspired by a programming error if memory serves me) Remember the old days when Roland or Korg or Yamaha would release a new synth and there'd be a sound on it that you'd never heard before? One that instantly put a smile on your face, one that instantly inspired a song? For me the Roland D-50 was that type of synth. Groundbreaking!
So now we have all of these soft synths with literally 1000's of sounds. Synths, orchestras, basses, drums, etc. Do you have a favorite or are there too many now and even the best just don't stand out?
I guess my favorite sound right now is a toss up between EWQL's Gold Orchestra 60 piece large string section and pretty much anything on Atmosphere. (and I'm chomping at the bit for the trilogy acoustic bass)
Oh, the good old days!!!
Mr Eric Persing seems to be a common thread in my musical tastes. (thank you Eric for the inspirational sounds over all of these years!)
