    Re: Bush: Fascism or Religion

Soooo....why did I just read an attempt to paint religion in a worse light then fascism?

What I love is the fact that Bush (and today's Republicans) were/are/continue to be the most misunderstood, underestimated individuals on the planet. Not only by a large portion of this country, but by the European socialists as well.

    I love it.

A better question is how so many people see stupid Bush and the alternative as having had equal validity. Why was such an irrational choice appealing?

I didn't make it very far through that article, but there's a lot of truth to the idea that fascism and a lot of organized religion (not spirituality, but organized religion) have a relationship. Organized religion has always been abused as a means to manipulate people.

With all due respect, that is a major contributing factor as to why you are so misunderstood.

    Re: Bush: Fascism or Religion

I have no misunderstandings at all. Our current administration is the worst in our history and it's about to get worse, thanks to the extreme gullibility of the American public.

Some things are a matter of opinion - abortion rights, tax cuts, social security, etc. - but our foreign policy is purely irrational. And wrong.

For a few days I'd calmed down, but now I'm hopping mad again. It's just unbelievable.

I do believe the millions of people slaughtered in the name of belief were
done in this century in Stalinist Russia, Pol Pots Cambodia, Germany,
Mussolini's Italy...... Oh yes there were a million or so Christians martyred by the Turks in Armenia in the turn of the century by Moslems which became the model for Adolph Hitler .....then lets see Sudan committing genocide daily as we speak...Moslem again.....Oh and how many Chinese killed under the Red Guard of Mao..........but it is the Republicans and the Christians we must fear!
And then there are the teaming millions set free by secular Europe! NOT!

But the Republicans and Christian right have centre stage now!! so thats where we focus, it doesnt necessarily mean a lack of awareness of other crimes. You cant negate crimes or unethical behaviour by pointing out the even worse crimes of the past, if anything a much higher standard is expected when a country has as its centre piece supposed high moral values.

Seems you've forgotten about the genocide in Rwanda and the complicity of the Christian church.

Or the Christian militia genocide of Muslims in Nigeria.

Or the attempted genocide of the Muslims by Christians in Cyprus.

Or the mass murder of thousands of Jews by Romans and Christians.

We should fear ALL relgious zealots, no matter what religion they practice. We should fear Republicans not because of their political philosophy -- which is often sound -- but because they are currently supporting a radical rightwing administration that uses Christianity, fear and bigotry as tools in promoting the killing of thousands of Iraqi women and children.

Well Brian i am open to your views, give me a convincing case for the Bush Administration, because i cant see how they are misunderstood or underestimated. And i am not sure what misunderstood and underestimated means within the context of the large public relations machine that creates there image.

    Re: Bush: Fascism or Religion

"they are currently supporting a radical rightwing administration that uses Christianity, fear and bigotry as tools in promoting the killing of thousands of Iraqi women and children". (a remark of pure irrationality and blind hatred.....if we were "promoting" the killing of Iraqis we could have done a much better job of it.....gee I thought it was the insurgent terrorists who are blowing up women and children in the civilian areas of Iraq.....I see no moral outrage from the left on that......

What do you think Sadaam was doing to thousands of Iraqi women and children? with the help of the Europeans supplying him with weapons and funds to keep building his palaces under the guise of the oil for food program.
And furnishing him with missile parts and other illegal weapons purchases.....
Where was your bleeding heart protest against evil then?

this "radical right wing" administration has brought Afghanistan and Iraq to a
Constitutional democracy that respects the rights of women...54,000,000 people brought into democracy which they can keep if they really want it, and they may not.

The Republicans have won presidency with a clear majority, increased their lead in the Senate, kept their lead in the house, they inhabit most of the governorships.....and all the left can say is that Americans are stupid.....
maybe their is something the left just does not "get"......just as Neville Chamberlain didn't get it......the moral smugness and condescension of the left is amazing...especially in view of the moral relativism that pervades its world view. Its strange to hear those who say there are no moral absolutes see themselves as so absolutely right....it may be the New Fundamentalism of our time!

...the extent of the mass murders of the secular and Communist regimes resemble NOTHING that has ever occurred history, anywhere.....of course power corrupts no matter whether the institution is
    religious or secular..
