What's your opinion about PMI Bösendorfer 290E?

    Hi,

I'm using steinberg The Grand virtual instrument and I'm thinking to change to PMI Bösendorfer 290E, because although The Grand behaviour is excellent, I don't quite like the base sound. I'd really prefer a not so good behaviour but a more real base sound. Is there anybody using PMI Bösendorfer virtual inst.? What are its flaws in your opinion?

    thanks

    Dani

It is pretty darn good. What styles of music do you need it for? Will it be mostly used solo or as part of a mix?

I use it with only piano and vocal and it sounds very good to me.

I don't own any of the new piano samples though to compare it to (White or Black Grand-Vintaudio-Old Lady etc)

The PMI Bos has a lovely ambience to it, I never have to add cheesy plug in reverb to it.

i just looked at ilio's ivory grand piano's and it looks like it could cover all of my needs. have you heard anything about it?

The Grand isn't bad, but the Bos 290 is newer and in a whole other league. Even its closer mic position is quite ambient, but it's excellent for a concert sound and blends well with sampled orchestra.

So it's not for everything, but it's phenomenal. I have the Giga version.

I agree that the PMI Bosen is best used for solo/voice type of stuff, simply because the sound is sooo big and round. I generally use Emu/Emulator X's Studio Grand for mix oreinted stuff. Its a wonderful sample set- Im guessing it might be a Kawaii or maybe a Yamaha. Wonderful for Pop stuff and TOTALLY worth the $100 upgrade

I have Ivory and the PMI Bos.

Both pretty darned good in my opinion.

The PMI has that amazing ambience to it.
