No, it was mainly the portamentos. Though they *do* sound pretty cool! Not realistic though. I like the piece.Originally Posted by vogelscheiss

Thanks!
As to buying, at this point I think that's pretty likely, yeah. Whoever characterized Synful as a true instrument and creative tool stated my reason why. There are things I've attempted with Synful I'd never have bothered to try with samples, and anything that opens me up to new kinds of writing tends to get my vote. However improvable my use of Synful for "Gulch", and that's something I can practice or edit, it pretty much would have been impossible using samples.
You can write impossible things for sample orchestras and so obviously too for Synful violin. The question I guess is where your impossible line has its own validity vs. where its obvious impossibility undermines its musical effect vs. whether the realm of possibility for a real violin peformance defines the realm of what sounds good anyway. There's probably some mushiness in all that.

Heh, you're right, that is a fun clip!Nicely recorded. And yeah, Synful seems to really hold down the job.

the articulations and so smoothly integrated. I know this isn't sampling or physical modelling, etc, but wowsers! These sound like samples to me.
It is very well done. The rest of the orchestra, while playable, just isn't as easy to finesse a realistic performance. I am not knocking this - but just as the playability and immediacy that I find with the strings (esp the violin) is not there with the other instruments.
I wish the strings were sold separately. they would be worth $70-$100. The price for the current orchestra is too high IMHO - though - I am sure all the hard work for these needs to be compensated. I know that other instruments are being added this year for freee upgrades to current owners, etc, but the price is still way too high. GPOA will be around the same price and it is THE most playable sample library out there. With a HECK of a lot more instruments and articulations, but here - the price I think is for the immediate playability.
Hats off to whomever, for making such a realistic and PLAYABLE solo string section. If I could afford it, I would get it. (Though - I think that the Garritan solo strad project will blow this out of the water when released.)

First, glad to be here. Great forum. I was a lurker.
And apologize my poor english. I know, it's a shame in our very little world.
But I work
Good idea. The thing is not fast, but it's an useful search, when samples salers give weekly new ideas to spend your hurting warm money.Originally Posted by FireRaven

One thing after this very long thread reading : Synful is an instrument. It's a clone, but with his own way. Not a collection of bricks for a cold lego puzzle.
An instrument, you must play on it. A robot can't do anything with. I saw may be 15 years ago, a faboulous japonese one, like those wich stand up and walk on steps to go upstairs. He was able to play piano, like any keyboard.
But that strange thing was dirty weird, for musician ears.
Cubase, Sonar and other, whith only mouse midi input, are bots. Only. We can program everything you we want, Bot play, in final. And without R. Daneel's positronics toys in their brain.
OK, a good sample can be play on keyboard (or other midi imput), like an instrument. But it will be in all cases a very poor interface, a creepy old tape recorder with dozen of white and black button 128 pressure positions. A son of mellotron.
The controler is the same with Synful. But the instrument live in duration, in expression variablity, in sound production diversity.
Not Yehudi menuhin with a stradivarius, but an instrument (with modesty) like Hammond B2, or Rhodes piano. Something imitating, but real.
The future, like many said here, is here, with best worked on pre-samples and articulations banks, more powerful CPU trading, perhaps coordinate with classics samples, and after the Yamaha VL test, better keyboards, with a total updating of the too old midi standard. 128 levels of velocity expression, it's too sad.
Hello,
anyone has noticed the new demo at www.synful.com site ? There is a BETA version with Strings, Woodwinds and Brass sections and some very interesting features...
Best to all
Woo, I've been hanging tight for this update for a while. Early Christmas present![]()
Just got the notification from synful. Can't wait to play with it. Synful's plug is one of my favorites. Very expressive. Very easy to play.Originally Posted by JacquesMathias
I've listened to the first mp3 demo, however, and have to say that it still needs some work with the string ensembles. It's getting close, but it's not quite there yet.
