Angry TEAC refusing to register Gigastudio3

I realize this is a very poor way to be introducing myself to the forum, but I thought I should stop ghosting and warn others about this.

TEAC is refusing to register my copy of GS3. I attempted to register via the website. I got a response saying that my CD-Key was invalid, and to send the "registration.txt" file (with instructions on where to find it).

In dealing with the customer service via email, I have now sent this file twice. The first time I was told "The CD Key is not a valid number. Please check your information again and re-send." The second time I was only given the instructions on how to find the file again. I've sent the file on it's own and with a picture of the CD Key (to prove that it's valid). Both times my efforts have been summarily rejected. I followed the last rejection by asking them what I could supply to prove that it was valid so that they could manually register me (they've refused to thus far). The response I received was the canned "please send the registration.txt file."

I can not believe the gall of this company to sell me a product and then tell me that I can't register it. All I'm able to get via email is a parroted response of "send this file" (which I've sent it multiple times already). I am not someone who gets upset easily or likes to make a fuss, so that should be an indicator of just how poorly their treatment of this problem has been.

    I am extremely dissatisfied.

Scarr, I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I would highly recommend calling them on the phone and follow up with an email with your telephone number highlighted.

    Scarr,
Sorry you're having troubles. I had exactly the same problems and eventually got them solved. If yours are similar to mine then I hope this helps.

    1) I purchased a 'competitive upgrade' version of GSt 3. The leading portion of the CD key was not in the upper part of the first registration page. Finally (after a few message exactly like the ones you received - I know them well!) I noticed that the competitive and education upgrades were handled on a different portion of the page. I enterend my leading portion there and moved forward.

    2) When I got the the next portion of registering (1-2 days later - boy I'm slow!) ;-) I then entered what was most certainly the number printed on my DVD case. At this point I failed for a couple of days. (and maybe 4 emails and 1 call to Tascam) I was sort of upset myself. Finally I got a message from Tascam telling me that they did not use the capital letter 'O' in their keys, and I could tell clearly from the font that it wasn't a '0', which I had tried already anyway. After about an hour I noticed that my key was printed very low on the sticker. Thinking that maybe the 'O' was something else I decided to try the letter 'Q'. At that point I got a response in 3 minutes and everything was registered.

Don't know if any of this will help you. I hope it does. I was getting pretty frustrated along the way. I hope you don't have to get any more frustrated than you currently are.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Out of 5 times that I have called Tascam, three time I got a taped message telling me to leave a message, which they never returned, once I was on hold for 2 hours, and gave up, and once I actually got through to a tech support guy, by using a tel. number which my rep gave me and Tascam doesn't give out.

Honestly, their support really sucks, but I do like the product.

Call 'em at 8am PST. If you get a machine, hang up and call again in a couple of minutes, until they get into the office and get the system on line. If you wait until the afternoon, it could be a while...

    THANK YOU!

This second part ended up being exactly my issue (although they'd explicitly told me to use a '0' instead of the 'O'). When I looked at the label again, I couldn't see any hint of the "tail" of the 'Q'. (I'm sure some typography master is cringing at that term. ) It's interesting/pathetic that I sent them a picture of the CD Key twice and nobody mentioned this possibility as it's apparently a recurring issue.

It's both great and sad that user forums can provide more support than the professionals.

    Thank you very much,
    Scarr

You're very welcome. I doubt that Tascam really understands this issue. They never gave me a clue as to this sort of problem. The only way I found it was I put the capital O in and when they sent back the message it was transcribed to the number 0. Look carefully at the response emails you got from them and see if you don't have the same problem.

Next comes the scary part for some other two unfortunately users down the road when they get labels that really have 'Q's and we find that our licenses were really some different mistake! Hope that never happens... ;-)

    Have fun sampling!
