Slightly OT: The world's saddest song

In a way, this is related to Gary's post re: forgiveness. So let's see if anyone wants to play:

What is the world's saddest song? Not because it 'sounds' sad, but because the truth behind the song is so very, very sad (and so very, very true).

Here's a (big) hint: The composer writes both popular and movie music and is more than fairly well known.

Why the post? Because it might be fun and because the 'truth shall set you free'...and there's a whole lotta truth in this song.

    Any takers?

Excellent try! Superior, in fact. Perhaps the worlds second saddest song.

Part of the fun is that the song in question is a bit obscure (although the composer most certainly is not).

    But again, very nice try!

Good! That's at least part of the fun. Any other takers?

Can you give us a clue as to who the composer is?

No contest: Gloomy Sunday, a.k.a. The Suicides Anthem. Scores of people are rumoured to have committed suicide after listening to it. There's a website dedicated to the history of this song, but it's currently down:

    That is sad . . . and pretty creepy . . . Now I'm spooked out . . .

Here's another website about it (from a quick google search):

Not most suicidal...saddest. Not necessarily the same thing. But it makes me think of that Monty Python bit where people's heads explode after listening to the 'world's funniest joke' (or some such nonsense!).

Clues to the composer...I'll make it easy: He's a real natural.
