Recommended Synth VST, controlled by MIDI

    Hello all,

I'm brand new to figuring out this VST thing, but was wondering if anyone has suggestions for a nice synth VSTi that I can use in conjunction with Sonar or Cubase (don't really know which one yet). I'm particularly looking for sci-fi, ambient, and other non-orchestral sounds to broaden my instrument palatte.

I would like to be able to control both the VSTi and Gigastudio at the same time, using different midi channels/tracks in the same project. Is this possible? Will the VST work like Gigastudio, in that I load the VST and some synth instrument, played through midi. Also, can you switch synth sounds via midi commands?

    Suggestions greatly appreciated!

    -Dave

Although it's tooting my own creation, I'm pretty sure from your request that you'd really enjoy Atmosphere.

You can check out more info, demos and videos here:

ABsynth is also an excellent instrument for what you are describing and works wonderfully with Atmosphere as well.

    All the best,

    M42 Nebula www.algomusic.nl
    Wusikstation www.wusik.com
    Ultrafocus

The first two have demo versions. Both are great at pads, spacey sounds and are syncable to BPM.

Or take a look at Wusikstation, which is running a great deal right now.

I have Cameleo 5000, Vanguard, Symphtom Meloman PE, and soon Wusikstation and I have to be honest, they all do things differently and each brings something new to the table.

Here's an mp3 stream of Albino 2 and all sounds on the demo are made by it.
If you're into the fattest sounds for dance music then you can't go wrong.

I agree with all the recommendations. The advice I'd give you is listen to the online demo's before clicking on the 'purchase' icon.

One final thing - Get CRYSTAL! - it's free and has some great patches. See the post above from Layne.
