Getting the old stuff GPO'd! Quartet for Winds (1995ish)

Here is a piece I composed in college for the Western Arts Quartet (woodwind quartet) to perform. They did a fabulous job. The members were: Dr. Charles W. Smith, flute, Dr. Todd Kerstetter, clarinet, Jackie Kerstetter, horn, and Larry Long on bassoon.

This is a GPO version of this piece. The original was intended to be multi-movement, so I have decided to go back and compose additional movements. Yay! new project!

    Quartet for Woodwinds No.1, op.7
    I. Elegy

    II. Instance 1
    III. Interlude 1
    IV. Instance 2
    V. Interlude 2

Nicely balanced and harmonious wind writing--very pleasant to listen to.

(The link to Interlude I brings up Instance I instead.)

    Thanks for the comments!

I have fixed the link to the Interlude. You think it should lead to Instance 1? Hmmm. Let me listen to it in that order. If I do that I will have an extra interlude to write! I was thinking of this format:

    I. Elegy (Prelude)
    II. Instance 1
    III. Interlude 1
IV. Instance 2 (I'm composing this now)
    V. Interlude 2
VI. Instance 3 (I may give this another name)
VI. Reprise of the Elegy (Very brief)

    Jess,
I wasn't commenting on the order. Just when I clicked on Interlude I, I got the mp3 for Instance I instead. It works now that you've corrected it. Thanks!

Here is the fourth movement to this Quartet. Just one and a half movements to go! This one has some interesting ideas including a brief foray into tonality!

    IV. Instance 2

Another brief interlude containing pieces of the previos movements in a transition to the fifth movement will follow.

This one was easy to compose because it is variations on tidbits of material from previous movements as well as a lead in to the next movement. It only took an hour to compose!
