    Computer set up...specifically RAID

    Hello fellow gigausers,
I am putting a second computer together in the near future, and saw that Tascam recommends (for a super GS computer) two 10,000 SATA drive in RAID. I just finished looking up RAID, and there are several types. Would those who have working RAID arrays please post your configurations. Please be specific, as I want to make this computer and not have to upgrade it for a long time (a long time equals roughly 5 computer years, 1 computer year equal several days or so...) Thanks.

10,000 SATA drives are usually low capacity, so you might want to go with 75000 rpm drives. RAID 0 is what you want.

75,000 RPM DRIVES??? Just kidding, I know there's an extra zero. Thanks for the info (RAID 0). What is considered a good size HD for the GS instruments/samples?

    Hi,

I have 2 GS3 computers that I just built. Both units have (2) Western Digital 73GB Raptors in a RAID 0 configuration. 150GB is well enough storage for GS samples.

    Excellent,
Those were the drives I was looking for. Could you give me a bit more info on your computers? Namely the mobo, cpu and ram(brand, speed and amount). Thanks.

If you want this system to go for a few years, 150GB isn't enough. You'll be out of space before you know it.

When I buildt my system, 120GB was the max. Now Seagate has 300GB drives with native command queuing. That's what I'd be buying today.
