    "Peachy" (small group jazz)

    Y'all,

Here is one of my jazz compositions called "Peachy". I wrote it in honor of one of my favorite states in the U.S.A. I'm sure that you can determine which one by the title. My Mother was originally from the city of Macon in this state.

The flute is GPO Solo KS and the piano is GPO Steinway. The bass and drums are Kontakt samples.

    My best regards to all,

    Larry A.

    THE DELAWARE PEACH

"In the 1500s, the Spanish brought the peach to Delaware. By the 1600s, peaches were so plentiful in the State that many colonists used them as feed for hogs. A mild climate produced by the two bays surrounding the Delmarva Peninsula, the Chesapeake and the Delaware, helped peaches grow. But it was the beginning of the Delaware Railroad that made the peach industry prosper. Between 1840 and 1890, huge orchards, ranging from a few hundred to 40,000 trees, spread from Delaware City to Kent County (see map). In 1875, the peak production year, almost six million baskets of peaches were shipped to markets. The enormous task of picking the fruit required large groups of workers, who became known as "peach plucks."

Widely acclaimed, the Delaware peach was the subject of a series of articles during the 1870s in Harper's Weekly, a poem by Milford, Delaware poet Mark Davis, and a 1915 song entitled "When It's Peach Picking Time in Delaware." Peach peddlers in the Mid-Atlantic region cried "here's your peaches, your nice Delaware peaches, your sweet Delaware peaches."

Well, I'll be danged! I had no idea. I always thought of Georgia being the peach state and that is the state to which I was referring.

    Thanks, Gary.
