Borodin's Prince Igor Overture - by William Rich

William Rich has sent in a rendition of the Prince Igor Overture using GPO. Prince Igor is an opera written by Alexander Borodin (1833-87).You may recognize one of the themes as the popular song "Strangers in Paradise".

This overture is refered to as the lost work of Borodin because he never finished his opera. It was completed by Rimsky-Korsakoff and his pupil Glazounoff whoheard him play it so frequently that it was an easy matter to orchestrate it according to Borodin’s wishes.

This is quite an undertaking to realize the entire overture of this classic and Bill has done an excellent job.

Thanks for sending this Bill, this is a fabulous accomplishment!

    Enjoy!

    Oh my, William,

I just recently heard this done in concert by the Philadelphia Orchestra. I was singing it for a week. Now I'll be singing it again. What a wonderful rendition you have done. Oh gosh I'm still listening and it just gets better all the time.

Thank you, and thank you Gary for sharing this with us.

I heard this while on hold with a phone company recently. I didn't realize that "Strangers In Paradise" from Kismet was written by another composer. I absolutely love Kismet, the music is so lush and beautiful and now I know why.

Your rendition, William, is phenomenal. It sounds VERY realistic. Beautiful job!

Beautiful strings... I always struggle to get a realistic string sound.

It's usually due to arrangement problems I expect.

A good arrangement = realistic sound in my experience.
