Anybody seen this Text to Speech translator?

You key in a word or phrase and get voice. Wonder if this is the similar technology the new EW voice libarary uses?

I remember playing with one of these programs in 4th grade..when the teacher wasn't looking we'd make the computer say ~~~ and ~~~~ hehe. I KNOW there are VOTA users out there that do the same!

    Hi Evan,

I don't have any voice libs and think this is amazing. Surprised to hear this technology has been around for so many years and something you were playing with in the 4th grade.

hehe yeah its pretty old stuff. I think some Windows comes with a program too.

Back then though you would sound like Stephan Hawking..i'm not sure how this one sounds. I'm only 18 so it was like 9 years ago that i fooled around with that.

I remember fooling around with something like this on Windows 3.1. Very monotone back then though. It's fun to mess with the ones that have accents hehe

Yes, it was a feature of Soundblaster's 'voice chip' or something or other... Its main use was to produce speech in video games of the era as opposed to just having text.

Surprisingly one still hears that robotic voice from time to time on various companies' automated message systems...

Most (maybe all) of those voices actually come from a different company: Loquendo. There are other companies out there doing high quality TTS, too. Notably, there's ScanSoft, which has bought up SpeechWorks and recently Rhetorical.

(My company works with various TTS companies, too, doing something much like Oddcast.)
