What's more important . . . finals or theme writing? Theme writing!

    . . . er, that explains my grades . . .

I know how you feel, Sean. I know how you feel.
One weekend I went crazy and wrote an entire orchestral coposition. It came out OK, but I didn't get a single bit of homework done. oh well.........

If that link doesn't work, go to the second page of the forum under the thread "Orchestration Duel Deux"...or something like that.

    Re: Orchestration Duel Entries

    Wow!!

I know I'm late to this party and the voting is over but I wanted to see what I was up against and it's daunting

All four were EXCELLENT. I will say for my personal tastes, 1 and 4 are standouts. i like the ethereal quality of each. 1 would be my favorite if it continued to evolve. The mood is great but it doesn't seem to get a chance to say all it could. Still really nice though.

The use of percussion in 4 is gorgeous. I like the chord substitutions and the use of the violins.

I thought 2 was great too. I like what's going on there harmonically. if it could be part of a piano concerto, say, where the piano was balanced with orchestra it could be quite brilliant.

And as for 3, it's terrific and many nice things have been said about it so i won't labor on...

There is a scary continuity between them all, if they could be incorporated into a suite it would work very well.

Anyhoo, if we were still voting it would be a hard call but I think I would vote for 4. But the fact that 2 didn't get any votes bums me out because I like it A LOT. I might vote for it just based on that!
