Bass Clarinet Demo - by Paolo Tramannoni

Paolo Tramannoni from Italy has sent in this extraordinary Bass Clarinet demo.

    http://www.garritan.com/mp3/PT-BassClar-foglio.mp3

He rendered this piece "Foglio 04.08" using the GPO Bass Clarinet with Sibelius on a Mac. It is in the style of Boulez/Berio - European classic contemporary music of the latest decades.

Paolo wrote several dynamic marks and hairpins in the score of Sibelius, then changed them to Control Change messages in Sibelius.

I asked Paolo if he was a bass clarinet player, and he said he was not but received several good suggestions while composing, both from his teacher (Alessandro Solbiati) and a clever bass clarinet player.

Thank you very much Paolo for sharing this demo!

Gary's missing a 'w'. It's just the World Web, now!

EDIT: And I forgot to mention... EXCELLENT DEMO!

    Paolo:

Very realistic-sounding Bass Clarinet. Sounds like you have found the secret and skill to producing an excellent reproduction of an instrument that is not used very much, but an invaluable tool in the orchestra.

    Great work paolo.

Listening to this on repeat: simply amazing! There must be some other trickery involved here! Something else that is not just GPO out of the box. Is there a subtle phaser on the instrument before the reverb? I've done that before with strings...

Quite masterful: I'd love to see a MIDI file if possible. Would be quite educational.

    Neat!

The bass clarinet's one of my favorite instruments -- and you've made ingeniously fine use of its various wonderful flavors and quirks.

    Skillfully done.

Thumbs up Re: Bass Clarinet Demo - by Paolo Tramannoni

Yes I agree, even if the middle '900 atonal style is not my favorite, it's a good piece, but an excellent rendering.

Congratulazioni vivissime all'autore, and thanks Gary

(must be moved in the demo thread?)

Very nice. Bass clarinet is one of my favorite instruments, and you've represented it very well.
