Lightbulb The ultimate sample lib ARSENAL

    Hello people,

I see a lot of people asking each other what sample library are they using for this instrument of that stuff. So, I thought it would be helpful for everybody if we post each of our favorite library of each instrument/style (I don't know if it has been done before).

If you use more than one lib for each category, post the name of both and if possible, explain why you use both.

Re: The ultimate sample lib ARSENAL

    My arsenal:
    Strings: GOS
    Brass: Project SAM
    Winds: Westgate (Extended)
Percussion: LOP/Stormdrum/True Strike (demo--will be purchasing very soon)
    Choir/Vocals: VOTA/Diva
    Piano: Bardstown Boesendorfer Imperial Grand

I don't know if all of those are my favorites. I'm sure if I had Opus 1, I'd prefer the winds it has to offer over Westgate. The new EWQLSC lib will be nice, but I don't do enough choir work to justify getting it any time soon.

Percussion is the only thing I use multiples of. LOP is good stuff, but I imagine once I grab True Strike next week, I'll be using that almost exclusively. Stormdrum is good, it has some huge percussion and some electronic stuff that LOP/TS don't have.

Here's what my arsenal sounds like in action. (yep, shameless plug from my latest gig) But this is also to illustrate how all this stuff goes so well together.

Excellent work, I really enjoyed your song. What you used for that metal hit in the percussion? Is it London or TrueStrike?

One metal hit (the one used more frequently) is True Strike. The more piercing metal hit used in the sequence w/ the taiko drums is Stormdrum. I don't like London's anvil/brake hits, they lack oomph.

Re: The ultimate sample lib ARSENAL

As of a month ago, I only use stuff distributed by East West and I couldn't be more happy .

Orchestral/All: EWQLSO Gold (Gold Pro as soon as they release it)
    Acoustic Guitar: RealGuitar
Electric Guitar: I play this out myself
    Acoustic Bass: Still Looking
    Electric Bass: Still Looking
    Drum Kits: Stormdrum
Ethic Instruments and all that stuff: RA
    Piano: Bosendorfer 290
Choirs: EWQLSC (as soon as it's released)

I don't use synths though, haven't felt the need yet I guess. I used to mix and match like crazy but got totally sick of trying to get different libs to mesh so I just broke down and got this stuff. It has made my life MUCH easier and I don't really have to worry about mixing under a strict deadline. I highly recommend this stuff, and to whoever told me to go EW instead of VSL - THANK YOU!!!
