Dvorak Symphony-COMPARISON OF GPO & ORCHESTRA by Dan Kury

    Dan has done it again.!

He has taken Dvorak's New Work Symphony (Symphony No. 9 in E minor), made a GPO version and then compared it to a recording of a real orchestra.

Here is Dan's version of Dvorak's New Work Symphony using both real orchestra and GPO. See of you can tell where GPO is playing and where the real orchestra is playing.

Not too long ago he brought us an A/B comparison of GPO with live orchestra with the Clara Schumann Piano Concerto.

Doing orchestral mockups is a great learning experience. Also going from MIDI-mlockup to real orchestra, as we did in the GPO Competition, is also helpful in learning a great deal about orchestration.

Comments and suggestions are welcome as to how to improve the orchestral rendition.

    Excellent work Dan!

Thank you Gary for posting this.

I think it does prove that GPO is a great sounding library, at least as good as the orchestra that it is compared to.

    Here are the times....

    0:00 - 0:21 GPO
    0:21 - 0:25 REAL
    0:25 - 0:34 GPO
    0:34 - 0:43 REAL
    0:43 - 1:14 GPO
    1:14 - 1:31 REAL
    1:31 - 1:48 GPO
    1:48 - 1:54 REAL
    1:54 - 2:06 GPO
    2:06 - 2:13 REAL
    2:13 - 2:25 GPO
    2:25 - 2:31 REAL
    2:31 - END GPO

Thank you guys very much, let's not forget the players, and all the folks that it took to make GPO.

I can tell you this.... you better start saving your money for GPO Advanced.
You are going to be absolutely stunned when you hear about the things that GPO Advanced is going to have.

This "compare and save" Dvorak demo pieces are absolutely 100% current GPO. Nobody that I know of has any beta versions of GPO Advanced.

Thanks again folks, tell your friends to get GPO on this group buy deal!
    What a deal!

    Very nicely done.

Note, though, that the first 50 or so measures of the Dvorak Largo is quite homogeneous. I would venture that it would be tough for a sample program to match a real orchestra for the remaining three movements, with all the polyphony. I guess that in time and in the right hands, we'll be able to re-create complex orchestral movements. (Well, I guess that the best of you can do it already.)

Just an absolutely wonderful bit of professional mixing and demonstrating not only that GPO is outstanding and can hold it's own against a real orchestra, but that you have mastered its playing capabilities.

    This is superb!

Dan, this is probably my most favorite symphony because of the emotions it invokes within me. What an incredible job you have done with this work of mastery! You are truly a gifted individual.
    Besides, where's the cream filling?
